Man, thisotherkingdom, calm down. No one said the Bears D sucked. They're the best D in the NFL this season. All I said was that if the Packers can score 17, then the Seahawks have a decent shot at 27.

the packers did not score 17 on the bears defense. this is something you do not seem to be understanding. 7 of those points were on a totally fluke punt return.

Nope, Spade Kitty, I'm actually pretty bright. I do understand what a special teams touchdown is---last I looked, they count for 6 too.

Alright, I'll rephrase my statement. If the Packers entire team can score 17 points on the Bears D, special teams units and offense, then I think the Seahawks have a decent chance at 27. I think that covers all possible scoring scenerios.

Again, I'm not sure why we're even discussing the Seahawks advancing beyond their first playoff game, when for 20 years they've managed to fuck that up pretty good playoff appearance after playoff appearance

Unlike the perennial post-season juggernaut Chicago Bears.

You're deluded. Seattle is for real. Unloading Ko-ro was the key, they've now got a complete team offense--scoring threat from every position, even without Darrel Jackson. The D is no slouch, either.

I'm no 'Hawks fan, but you can't in all honesty dismiss them so easily.

the bears D is pretty good, but the pack were able to go down the field almost all day. sure, they were thwarted in/near the red zone, but that's because all they have to help favre with is donald driver.

the seattle seahawks have a strong offensive line featuring the perennial pro-bowler walter jones. a top 2 RB in rushing yards the last 2 seasons. a hot quarterback. and finally have their top 2 WRs ready to play for the first time all season, allowing them 2 more weeks of rest.

so it'll come down to a strong D vs a strong O, and an average O vs an average D on the other side of the ball. i think it'll come down to how many mistakes rex grossman makes, if he survives the game, plus homefield advantage. if the bears make it that far.

i'm no fan of either team. but if i had $100 to gamble on CHI @ SEA, i'd take SEA with whatever spread was out on friday.

Seattle actually has the #4 scoring defense in the NFL, and they lead the NFL in sacks. I think they're #12 or 13 for yards allowed---the dreaded bend-but-don't-break defense. So I'd put them a little above average defensively. Their starting safety, Ken Hamlin, has been out since October (bar fight), and a starting corner (Dyson) and their nickelback (Herndon) have also both been out for 3 weeks. They should get both corners back for their first playoff game, but Hamlin is out for the year.

When the Seattle Seahawks do not play down to (and lose to) whatever second round opponent they end up having, wake me up and let me know about it then.

They haven't won a playoff game since the bears last won a superbowl, IIRC

And the Bears are 3-7 in playoff games over that same time period, including 4 one-and-dones (compared to Seattle's five). Yeah, it's a better record than Seattle's---no argument from me; but it's not as if the Bears have been a dominant playoff football team during this time interval, either. I'd say both teams have a lot to prove.

Why is it that every Bears thread this year has ended up in a cluster-fuck, unwinnable argument between SK/KOCF/Robotboy and someone else? Interesting.

Here's some more fuel for your fire---today's Vegas odds for winning the Superbowl:

Carolina Panthers 40-1
Chicago Bears 13-1
Cincinnati Bengals 25-1
Dallas Cowboys 90-1
Denver Broncos 9-1
Indianapolis Colts 1-1
Jacksonville Jaguars 55-1
Kansas City Chiefs 500-1
New England Patriots 15-2
New York Giants 20-1
Pittsburgh Steelers 25-1
Seattle Seahawks 8-1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25-1
Washington Redskins 40-1

Thoughts? Rants?

I actually think the Bears have a legitmate chance to go to the superbowl, but I doubt grossman or orton will have what it takes to beat Seattle if they advance.

I'd take the Redskins with those odds.
