I'd rather see him solo than with Wilco.

Sorry if this ruins the buzz, but a friend just saw him solo in NYC and said it was unbelieveably bland.
I can see that. Never been a fan of solo acoustic singer/songwriter live show. I feel just the opposite of cotton on this subject. To each his own, I guess.

i'm with cotton.
he is amazing solo. you'd think the songs stripped of all the who ha would expose them for the three chord romps that they are . . . but somehow they sound even better stripped down.

don't kill my buzz stu!

we'll see. all i know is that the solo version of sunken treasure on that dvd is AWESOME. if the rest of the set is half as good as that, i'll be a happy camper.

Also, I loved Tweedy solo. I don't know that I necessarily think it's better than a Wilco live show, just different. He's more personable with the audience.

One of my top 5 Wilco/Jeff Tweedy tunes is "Rhythm" aka "Cars Can't Escape" that was a YHF demo tune. It's featured in I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.

The friend I spoke of isn't a huge Wilco or Jeff Tweedy fan, so if you go into it wanting to hear these songs acoustically, then I'm sure it'll be a unique experience. Also, isn't he playing with Glenn Kotche? The 2nd half of the set may be a little more amped up.

I saw him a few months ago in PA and was completely in awe of him solo. I was so impressed with how he worked the crowd, and played a mix of UT, W, and LF stuff. The guy genuinely seems to love going out and performing. Also, I heard he pretty much stays until everyone has met him that wants to meet him. A nice guy to be sure.

My real surprise though was with how great Glenn Kotche was solo. I hope he's playing on this second leg, cause the guy can really make beautiful music. Once again a super nice guy.

Actually seeing Wilco these days is almost like seeing Tweedy solo... or at least Jeff Tweedy and the Wilcos.

I saw the Great American Music Hall solo show that was featured in "I am Trying to Break Your Heart"... my friend was the women in front who called him "a poet"... he is spectacular live. Talky. I've got tickets to the Filmore Feb. 9.
