Haven't heard the Goldring, but the MMF is a nice TT for the money. Flip a coin, and I bet you'll be happy with either for a while.

Thanks. I think I may end up going for the Goldring based on the slightly better cartridge.

I ended up going with the Music Hall MMF-5, and it finally came on Friday. Thanks for all the advice. This board and others were very helpful. I'm still playing around with it, but I'm quite pleased.

I picked up a new copy of Pere Ubu's This Modern Dance, and it sounds AWESOME  . I have a few of my parents older records that are pretty scratched up, but some of the better kept ones sound great.

Nice. Glad you went with the MMF 5---like I said earlier, I've been very pleased with mine.

I know. As I looked into it more, my budget grew significantly. Good for my listening pleasure, not so good for my bank account :?

yeah, but you've got it for life unless your parents sell it in a garage sale when you're on tour, which mine did.

I need to buy another 5.

I think I'm the one that turned Marco onto them, but i might be wrong. If so, i'm taking this moment to pat myself on the head.

I know I'm late to this conversation but I just bought a Riga P2 last month and I really love it. The sound is fantastic and it's one of the cleanest designed things I own. Definitely worth checking out if anyone else decides to invest in a "I'll have it forever" turntable.

This is definitely not a turntable for mixing by the way, there are no pitch controls. There's an on switch and a tonearm lever and that's about it.

Dig it. Cause I already patted myself on the head, and that kind of thing is hard to take back.

Well Marco helped nudge me to get the 5, so you can pat yourself on the head again for some secondhand advice.
