Do you guys save them? I have this enormous stack in this desk drawer that I'm in the middle of cleaning out and I can't figure out why I still have them....

Nostalgia I guess.

I started saving them in the mid '80s - and wished I'd saved 'em sooner. Why? Because it gets hard to remember all the concerts you've seen. Oh sure, it's easy in your 20s - a mere ten years of concerts to remember, and each one seemingly a great one. But add another two decades to that and they all start to fade together (especially the run-of-the-mill or altered-reality ones). For example, I have no memory of seeing Rickie Lee Jones, but the ticket stubs say I did.

They mad the cut in the cleaning so they are safe for at least a year until I clean my desk again.

I don't save them, but I kind of wish I did for the reasons Radcliffe mentioned.

I've been to so many concerts but I've forgotten a lot of them and many that I do remember I can't remember the specific dates or venues, sometimes even year.

It would be neat to have a complete record of all the shows I've been to just for fun.

I used to keep them. Then I threw them all out. Now I find myself wondering whether I ever saw certain bands when I was in College. Wished I'd kept them and started saving again. I only have about 3-5 years worth now though.

Good point, even if I had all my ticket stubs it'd probably account for less than half the shows I've been too.

And now a lot of places are just using a guest list type thing when you order online tickets.

i have a slew from about '93 through '97, but i now don't get tickets to many shows for a variety of reasons.

i started my ongoing list in 1996 (i only started going to shows regularly in 1993) and have kept it up pretty well since then. i know i'm missing a few dozen (maybe 30+), but only maybe one or two of those were worthwhile with a band or more that i actually enjoyed.

I never do will-call so I'll have the stubs...yea, dorky

but I wish I had a better way to store them than the rubber band that I'm currently using

For sure! I lost a lot of them though! I noticed a few yesterday that were classic shows. For '06 I'm tracking everything in Excel. Word. Off to the Books and Diplo!

Same here.

I've got some good ones though such as a Guns & Roses ticket from when I saw them in Germany and Public Enemy from 1989.

I occasionally want to do this, but always end up throwing them out. Same with movie tickets.

Not only do I save them, I plan on scanning them for posterity. They are going to fade eventually!

I love archives and the preservation of everyday cultural/historical artifacts. This is sort of my contribution (not that anyone really gives a shit about them). Maybe it's really just for my own weird compulsions.

Guilty of doing this too.

Shit, I still got my very first ticket stub from when I saw Miss Jackson at the Forum here back in '89.

I'm a sick sick man.

I'm not sure if I've delibrately saved my tickets its just I never throw anything out. I even have carrier bags from every record shop in Glasgow thats inadvertantly formed into some sort of collection!

I hardly ever go to gigs now for a variety of reasons but one thing I've noticed is that 'modern day' tickets are really crappy. Mostly they are just computer printed from a till when a few years ago tickets were printed with nice designs on them, on different types and sizes and colours of paper.

There was something worth saving about them - each one was individual. Now they are all bog standard and the same. Plus the ink from the computer printed tickets rubs off pretty easily and your just left with a piece of card.

Anyway, thats me with my tickets were better in the old days speel....

Aside from Finch's suggestion, you can also use baseball card sleeves to store your ticketstubs. They're made of archival material, so will protect your ticketstub for a long time. Use a plain ol' binder and voila! Instant storage.
