When I first got on Obner, I asked what five post 1990 albums I should get.
You Obners gave me 252 suggestions.
I finally cleaned up and organized the list and this is what you said:

Wilco (7x) Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (5x)
Neutral Milk Hotel(4x) In the Aeroplane over the Sea (4x)
Spoon (7x A Series of Sneaks (4x)
Radiohead (7x) OK Computer (4x) (I already have this)
DJ Shadow (6x) Entroducing (3x)
Flaming Lips (4x) The Soft Bulletin (3x)
New Pornographers(4x) Mass Romantic (3x)
Nick Cave (5x) 5 diff albums

So I guess I am going to have to go out and get some music this week!
BTW, I really want to thank the ones that gave me RIYL! those really helped.

(If anyone wants to see the entire list, PM me, I'll send the Excel spreadsheet)

Thanks Obners!

I'd only buy the New Pornographers from that list.

All those things are pretty good, though I agree more with Northern Soul than Finch Platte. New Pornographers are good, but not sure if they're in the same class as those other records.

I just only know of four Neko Case releases, and only two I'd expect to be recommended so highly.

Do you want my recommendations? Is that what you mean?

Wow, I can't believe I mis-read that as Neko Case multiple times.

Shmoo's faves post-1990:

U2 - Achtung Baby (1991)
Sugar - Copper Blue (1992)
Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted (1992)
Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville (1993)
Jeff Buckley - Grace (1994)
Portishead - Dummy (1994)
Built To Spill - There's Nothing Wrong With Love (1994)
Tricky - Maxinquaye (1995)
Radiohead - The Bends (1995)
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing (1996)
Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island (1996)
Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk (1996)
Radiohead - OK Computer (1997)
Bjork - Homogenic (1997)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (1998)
Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs (1998)
Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I (1999)
Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret (1999)
Death Cab For Cutie - We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes (2000)
Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out (2000)
Crooked Fingers - Crooked Fingers (2000)
Radiohead - Kid A (2000)
Blackalicious - NIA (2000)
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 (2000)
PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea (2000)
Neko Case - Blacklisted (2002)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2003)

Hmm, nothing from 2001 and tons from 2000. I'm sure I forgot a bunch of '90s releases too.

Either one of these should be essential to your post-1990's collection:

Sorry guys but the only one that listed McLusky was Old Ken Turkey
Shiv- if you'd care to list five (or more) that I should consider please do!

And you, Mr. Splates, didn't list them either:
Splates:
Radiohead - Kid A [2000]
Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers) [1993]
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible [1994]
Pulp - Different Class [1995]
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 [1993]

I would agree with some of those as being essentials although I'm a bit perplexed as to people leaving off Brit bands of the era....Perhaps they were but didn't make the top list, but I recommend these anglophile albums:

Pulp-Different Class
Charlatans UK-Between 10th and 11th
Gay Dad-Leisure Noise
Stone Roses-s/t
Ocean Colour Scene-Marchin' Already
Hefner-Breaking God's Heart
Suede-Sci Fi Lullabies (collection of Bsides/misc)
Manic Street Preachers-The Holy Bible
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless <--!!!!!!!!!
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci-Spanish Dance Troupe (not my favorite, but
might be the only one in print)
Super Furry Animals-Fuzzy Logic

Check some o' these out.

-edit- saw Splates rec'd some of these, even more reason 2x people recs.

No Massive Attack? How can you talk about post-1990 music without them?

Borg- Yes there was the one massive attack on the list that you gave me but you were the only one that recommended them and Flying Rabbit makes two...

That's not to say that I won't get the ones that are not here, but they may be further down on my list of future acquisitions.

The obners are the ones that made this list, Unfortunately some of you folks may not have had a chance to participate

Here is the original post if you want to see the entire list or I can send the excel spreadsheet which is easier to read.

wow, this just flips me out that this didn't come at least in the top ten. This is definitely one of my faves from 90s no doubt. Definitely look for it when you get down the list!

Seeing as how I only wanted to get five albums to start, and now have gone up to six, does this mean that some of these that have been recently mentioned take the place of my original list? even though they have only one recommendation?
