I can't believe there's no thread about this yet.

Anyone else seen it? I liked it though I think it went on about 20 minutes too long and there were some really cheesy parts near the end.

Like all of Spielberg's films in the past however how many years? Minority Report would have been immeasurably better had he just ended it at an appropriate time, but no. It had to keep going and the future-seeing-things had to get their little slice of happiness at the end. AI went on way too long also. If he could show a little restraint, maybe I would go see his stuff in the theatres. Knowing that the last 30-45 minutes are going to be so painful I just can't shell out the 10 spot.

Yeah but Minority Report and AI are all around shitty movies.

I'd compare it to Saving Private Ryan, though it's not nearly as good. It's probably as graphic as that though.

Minority Report is classic sci-fi. It's probably Spielberg's most underrated film ever.

To me, it has a long way to be as good as this. Yes, I realize the film is about "revenge" and the aftermath, but honestly, this film takes the wind out of you. One of the best docs I've ever seen. Plus, it has one of the best music->film sequences=Led Zep to track running.

I though it was damn good. Spielberg is a waste unless the topic is something Jewish. Thankfully, this was one of those occassions.

How about at the end when the star is running his girl just sweating like mad and it switches to slo-mo? Hilarious!

And I thought only John Woo missues slo-mo. That was a little weird... still, a great flick.

AI's two additional endings were a bit much. if he at least ended underwater, but we're forced to see things from an alien's point-of-view...

i also think minority report is spielberg's best sci-fi in quite a while.

That was a bit much. He had me until the parts where Avner got back to Brooklyn. The political thriller aspect of the movie until then was pretty top notch though.

Besides that sweaty sex scene, Eric Bana was pretty great, I thought.

i really wanted to like this film but it fell sooooo flat. the scenes with the olympians were great as was the sub plot at the safe house. the rest of the movie was like the a-team goes out to hunt some bad guys. the old guy the idealist, the hair trigger guy...blah, blah, blah.

the dialogue was hardly scintilating and i really expected more from tony kushner (sp?) who is being interviewed by terry gross tonight. he got some 'splainin' to do.

and then there's THE MOMENT. in every spielberg film there's a moment or series of moments where he presents us with the most schmaltzy, insipid, over blown dose of self indugent sentimental dramatization he can muster:

plus thunder and lightening? this is where i want to throw spielberg and john williams into a shark cage with a faulty door to the bottom of the ocean. hey guys...WE GET IT. not every movie needs a "free the frogs" scene.

i'd give it a half hearted 2 1/2 stars out of 4. this story deserved much better treatment.

yeah that's one of the scenes i thought was cheesy. the other one was when he just HAD to show the twin towers at the end.

War of thw Worlds suffered the same way.

Probably the darkest paths (in the bleakest enviornments) he's let the protagonist go down and then it's like Growing Pains at the end... WTF?

Yeah, after watching that I wanted to just have that on loop, it was just so good. Floppy hair runners and all.

I swear I remember hearing that the original last line of the movie (Cruise's narration tying up the story) was something like "In the 6 months since the PreCrime unit closed, there have been over 500 murders in the city of Washington D.C."

If true, they were fools for cutting it.

I saw Munich today and agree with the criticism above... Not as much moral equivalency as feared, but still too much hollywood and "A-Team". The best parts were the actual newsreel footage with Jim McKay and the re-enactment of what transpired at the airport. The Doc was better and it was real. Avner was fictional and Spielberg's efforts to show his sensitivity really put me off.

Worth seeing I guess if you have 3 hours, but not nearly as good as I hoped it would be.

i just saw munich this past weekend and am agreeing with a lot in this thread.

1. one day in september is tremendous. comparing the two films isn't really valid. also, let's not forget the beta band's usage.
2. it dragged on too long, probably 20-30 minutes too much.
3. i was hoping for a lot more because the story deserves better.

i did like how spielberg at least attempted to try to capture what spies and other intelligence personnel go through once their assignments are finished. i can't even imagine how it feels adjusting to normal life after that experience.

also, how do you put that on a resumé?
