Was that the show with Chad VanGaalen? I was wondering how that show was.

no, but I saw his ode to FlashDance which was rather humorous. Also his prediction for Nat'l Champ was hilarious in his reasoning for UT.

yes. chad vangaalen was alright... nothing special. wolf parade was good, but i liked their performance at cmj in ny better. they played a bit faster than normal, and there was a 5th dude playing with them- had no idea who he was. only played one new song, and in the encore, played my favorite b-side "disco sheets." the energy from the crowd was lacking though, which surprised me since a gazillion people were outside begging for tickets to get in.

i still want to have wolf parade babies though.

I'm sad I missed the CMJ show. I'm one of the beggars who couldn't get in. I would have loved to have seen Wolf Parade, Kinski, and the Constantines.

5th guy = the old guitar player from Hot Hot Heat, right?

I had tickets for cost from some guy off of Craigslist, but he dragged his feet for 2 weeks, and then didn't call me back yesterday when we were supposed to meet up... I'm sure he got a nice lil' profit off of 'em last night, then...

Oh well - at least I had Seinfeld (I'm up to season 4 now) to keep me company.. and you had a good time (and possibly babies), so it's all gravy...

really? maybe it was him, i thought he looked familar.... but i couldn't pinpoint who it was.

oh don't worry kyle, i'm sure they'll be back. it only took them a year and a half to come back to la. but, i wouldn't be surprised if they played coachella.

Does anyone else think the latest Mountain Goats sounds a lot like the Last Weakerthans?

I had to look them up to make sure it wasn't the same dude singing.

Love both bands... John K. Sampson and Darnielle both have reedy deliveries, and their lyrics often read more like literary tretices than songs...I could see someone confusing the 2, but the music/production for the 2 (especially on reconstruction site, The Weakerthans' latest) is pretty different...

Plus, they're fairly good friends (or at least penpals). It's a fact....

Are any Sub Pop bands on the lineup? I didn't notice any on the SXSW site. Maybe they haven't submitted their showcase lineup yet? I'm being hopeful.

As much as I like Chad Van Gaalen, I was disappointed in his performance. He kept apologizing for his lack of enthusiasm due to his gf calling him with some "emergency". I'm willing to give him another chance, though.

Wolf Parade were great! I'll post photies later. Dri's right regarding the audience. The house was packed but it was the oddest crowd of people -- very subdued. Maybe cuz Chad and the other Boggs' dude were a letdown, they drained the energy for WP.

A lot of my photos didn't turn out too well. Mostly because of where I was standing and the dim lighting. But, here are a couple from Monday night's show:
