Everytime I go to the Microsoft website to download the Windows Media Player it downloads the Windows Media.stix but I can't run it. I've tried downloading it through Safari and IE but no luck.

Suggestions?

The last iMac I had didn't require me to do that. Hmmmm.

It doesn't seem like I should have to pay to download WMP.

it was announced yesterday that microsoft has stopped development of windows media player for mac. instead microsoft is giving out copies of the flip4mac codecs, which will let you play windows media files inside quicktime. in my experience the flip4mac codecs are much, much better than microsofts own, and you would be well advised to use them instead.
