Dalen, serious question - have you posted your list yet?

I wanna see how you managed to fit those 100 or so british libertines sounding bands into a top 20 ;)

( ) is boring... i can't listen to it without falling asleep to it. that being said, i put this on when i can't sleep... never fails to help.

AB is great, but i personally like takk a bit better. more instruments are used, the songs are shorter, and slightly more upbeat. it's way more accessible, so i recommend checking it out.

My Shmoo Poll Top Twenty

1 edgar ‘jones’ jones SOOTHING MUSIC FOR STRAY CATS
2 lightning bolt HYPER MAGIC MOUNTAIN
3 fiery furnaces EP
4 antony & the johnsons I AM A BIRD NOW
5 king creosote KC RULES OK
6 edan BEAUTY AND THE BEAT
7 franz ferdinand YOU COULD HAVE IT SO MUCH
8 the broken family band WELCOME HOME, LOSER
9 viarosa WHERE THE KILLERS ROAM
10 the white stripes GET BEHIND ME SATAN
11 king creosote ROCKET D.I.Y
12 boards of canada CAMPFIRE HEADPHASE
13 roots manuva AWFULLY DEEP
14 mek obaam YOU AND I
15 the clientele STRANGE GEOMETRY
16 smog A RIVER AIN’T TOO MUCH TO LOVE
17 mark mulcahy IN PURSUIT OF YOUR HAPPINESS
18 laura cantrell HUMMING BY THE FLOWERED VINE
19 the go-betweens OCEANS APART
20 caribou THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS

However my Shmoo Poll Top Twenty would be a lot different from my Top Twenty of 2005 (by my definition). Due to the strict rules about release dates I was missing a quarter of actual Top Twenty.

My Official Top Twenty would include (1) Two Gallants (2004 US release date, 2005 in UK), (4) Mogwai (2005 UK release date but features Peel Sessions recorded previous to 2005), (7) Sebastian Tellier (2004 French release date, 2005 in UK), (13) Arcade Fire (2004 US release date, 2005 in UK) and (14) Richard Swift (Original small scale release (500 copies) in 2001, re-released 2005).

I was surprised that this made it on to my list, but even more surprised that you and I are the only people that had this on there. I had to enter this in to the charts to submit mine.

I really need to check out that Hot Chip album. Anyone who randomly mentions Ween in a song is ok by me.

First half of () is still pretty sweet, but yeah, the drop-off is a love/hate affair after njosnavelin/track 4.

I think Takk is far and away the most consistent record they've released. If I was into doing a proper top 20 list, it'd be in my top 5, without question.

seriously! it's such a great fuckin' album. i think you'd dig the hot chip album if you dig juan maclean. the BEST track by hot chip is "over and over," which is not on the album, but the ep... but i'm sure you can find it floating around mp3 blogs. the bassline on that track is KILLER.

Yeah, it's better than meh, but definitely NOT their best. A few tracks are among their finest, but on the whole, it's really just a decent album.
