It's very possible.

I told one of my coworkers about this place this afternoon. He was complaining a Radiohead-esque board he frequents is too often a victim of posteuring and people disliking things to seem cool.

I lied and said obner's nothing like that and told him the address. He said he'd check it out.

Half an hour later and my manager tells me I'm not being kept on.

Well, this certainly puts my troubles in my earlier thread in perspective.

Best of luck, man.

I wasn't actually posting on here at work. I was working in a record store. It was just a temp job but I was really confident they'd keep me on seeing as how all the other temps were braindead.

Goes to show what overconfidence does for you.

Yeah, that's what happened to me.

But I was on the schedule for next week. All of a sudden today, five minutes before I go home, the manager pulls me aside and says "Unfortunately, today is your last day."

I mention next week's schedule and he's like "oh, that's still being worked on. It's up in the air."

And that's it. Meanwhile, my "competition" was a bunch of bimbos and a couple braindead emo kids.

If youre reasonably intelligent, tutor high school kids as a job, trust me.

You can charge exorbitant fees per hour (and no tax), work great hours and not do too much work. Im tutoring Maths and English right now, and I've done Physics before; all just from memory, since im not doing any of those three at university.

Yeah, I can't stand teenagers. I couldn't when I was one and even less now. So that's doubtful.

And yes, that was 80% of the staff. Pierced lip, Thrice/Alexisonfire-listening "punk rockers".

Two of the permanent staff members stole $4000 on Boxing Day and they've still got a job and I don't. That's the biggest kick in the ass.

I hate all people equally.

Nah I was surprised how easy it is, because im the worst at explaining things to people, i just get angry and shout at them. But the kids who get tutored tend to be rich nerdy kids already.

dude, i seriously have no idea why M didnt keep you on. i kept telling him, every time i worked, that you got shit done, and actually knew about music.

he wouldnt tell me why you got let go, and he usually does. he wouldnt tell me why he let any one go, to be honest. he comes to me and asks me for input on every employee, and despite my good words, he went the other way.

it pains me that brenden still has shifts. fuck that, it pains me that more than half the staff is there.

by the way, the radiohead-esque message board is www.ateaseweb.org and i only post in the off topic > music forum.

sorry bro, wish i could have done more, but i only have so much power there.

I joined that board about two months ago (only posted in the same forum you mentioned), but only lasted about 10 days. It's a fairly big board, which I liked, but everyone on there seemed to be between 16 and 20. Never felt like it was a Radiohead board but was only in that one forum. What finally drove me away, beside the hipsters not liking anything good, was that boards Top 200 of All Time. There is nothing wrong with being young as time changes everything. That list was embarrassingly bad where it came across forced with no rhyme or reason. It felt like people were more worried about what other boarders would think of their picks instead of going with their heart (or maybe it's age again where they just don't know).

Obner along with my other message board *L* have spoiled me rotten.

age has nothing to do with that.

to be honest, i mainly used that board to expose me to music that i might not see elsewhere.

half the time, the topics there are trivial arguments about how bad coldplay is, how amazing interpol is, and so on.

once in a while, a good topic will pop up, but you can count on it getting corrupted by someone. and their top ## lists are usually fluff.

you have to remember that most of the people are there because they are in fact radiohead fans. i love radiohead myself, but a lot of the fans of this band have grown into "cutting edge" fans, who only like things that are different, and, half the time, not liked by any one else.

i have been reading this board over the last couple of days, and am surprised by the fact that no one is here to make fun of other people, and that the broad range of musical taste isnt judged. you guys definitely have something special here.
