so with the prospect of claiming my father's newly digitally converted vinyl records for my own (not even really sure what he's got, but i know for a fact that some are very much worth keeping - hey, he's always had somewhat good taste), i have decided to look into procuring my first turntable. needless to say, i know not where to focus my search and as such i turn to you, the seasoned veterans.

i have a feeling that there are some excellent recommendations just waiting to be unleashed upon me.

There was a very similar thread about this very topic within the past couple weeks. I'm still a proponent of the Craigslist/Thrift Store route. Takes a decent hunk of patience and a little bit of luck, but in the process you can come across some new vinyl and uncover a hell of a deal.

I got my turntable of Craigslist, but that second part just wasn't phrased well on my end.

Here's the recent thread: http://www.obner.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=15065&highlight=turntable

I believe he was talking about the turntable. You should *always* be shopping for more vinyl at the thrift store. Where else are you going to find a copy of "Hey Jude, Hey Bing"?

i'm not around very many thrift stores, if any at all. i've got to move into a/the city for that. although that will presumably be coming in the coming weeks.

Without, as a minimum, seeing some performance specs on it, I'd be very leery of a new tt at that price.
