Shit, really? I can understand your distaste for the title track, but "Procession ... " is a heart-wrenching song. I adore it.

Good idea. I'll post that in the stickied thread.

Well, the list of who has voted. Not who hasn't.

RE: "Procession...", revisiting that one and the previous track, "Saint Cloud", and I think it may actually have been the latter half of that one that I was thinking of, not "Procession". Still, while neither bother me like the title track does, I much prefer the actual songs on the album. The first two tracks are excellent, as is "Home".

As an experiment in repetition, layering, dissolution, etc., I really like the title track. Looping aside, I think you almost have to admit that the foundational melodies are great! I'm able to ignore (or accept) that they're looped at length. I appreciate that it's an approach Chasny's never used before having never had access to a proper studio. Having seen him play solo live in the same manner, I found it easy to accept, if not even admire. "Procession" consisted of him laying down the acoustic repetition, and then subsequently just destroying it on electric. It was captivating.

3. Electrelane - Axes

Interesting list, although I've heard very few of them. Curious about the Electrelane. There's some stuff on there that I love and there's some stuff on there than I'm pretty much ambivalent towards, and sometimes even dislike depending on my mood, in contrast to last year's The Power Out which was one of my very top albums of the year because I loved everything about it. Apparently you like Axes completely, right? Don't you sense any aimless wandering at times? When it's focused, it's incredible. Suitcase is one of the best closers ever. And the album certainly starts strong, kind of like an extension of what I liked about The Power Out. But I find myself skipping tracks whenever I play it now. I guess some of it just seems like an experiment that doesn't work for me right now, but I hope they keep it up because when they do hit me, they hit me good :)

Yeah i really love this record. I think you have to be in the right mood to listen to business or otherwise, probably the most experimental track. They have toned down the vocals and it sounds more like rock it to the moon. I do prefer the power out though. My no 1 for 2004.

Well i may have cheated a little bit, i think at least 4 of these are import only in the states at the moment. My official schmoo poll picks look a bit different.

But yeah Heavy trash is a great record.

A-frames was overlooked in nearly all lists but IMO black forest is close to being Sub pop's answer to nirvanas bleach.

I finally broke down and id this, but I did a real half assed job. MMJ should be higher, one of the bottome 2 should probably be Twin Cinema, but other than that, sure this'll suffice.

1. The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang
2. Young Jeezy - Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101
3. Josh Rouse - Nashville
4. Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
5. Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Cold Roses
6. The National - Alligator
7. The Deathray Davies - The Kick and The Snare
8. Love As Laughter - Laughter's Fifth
9. Ike Reillu - Junkie Faithful
10. Devin Davis - Lonely People Of The World, Unite!
11. Kanye West - Late Registration
12. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better...
13. Lucero - Nobody's Darlings
14. Babyshambles - Down In Albion
15. Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Jacksonville City Nights
16. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs
17. My Morning Jacket - Z
18. The Paddingtons - First Comes First
19. Senator Loogar - OPEN GARBAGE
20. Johnny Taint & The Cans of Piss - Lappin' It Up

Am listening to this now. You have a strange sense of humour.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it; you just have to be pretty "out there" to list it amongst your top 10 favourite albums of the year.

I was pretty disappointed with this. It's certainly not bad but his past two releases haven't had the same personality I enjoyed on his Donna Summer records. Impressed it ended up in someone's top 10 though.
