at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Now-April 2. If you live in New York, go for me.

I'd die to see this. When I looked at one of his pieces at the Hirshhorn... I can't even explain how it made me feel.

Summary of Article from Time Magazine (had to do it for current event HW)

Arriving in New York in 1949, Robert Rauschenberg created a new form of abstracted art that was more complex and encompassing than even that of Pollock and De Koonings work. The work that he composed throughout the span of his rise into the art scene is being featured in a survey at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, now through April 2. The exhibition will feature Rauschenberg's work, which he termed to be "combines" that he worked on within the span of 10 years, beginning in 1954. Rauschenbergs work, which was composed mainly of "junk," was not solely inspired by that of other visual artists, but interestingly inspired by the avant-garde composer John Cage. The eclectic randomness of Cage's work inspired Rauschenberg to seek out unconventional materials to manipulate within his work. The Metropolitan Museum exhibition is dedicated to his work between 54-the mid 60's, and the show has been organized by Paul Schimmel of the Museum of Contemporary Art in LA. The survey of Rauschenbergs art is solely dedicated to his combines, and will move from the Museum in New York to European cities in the spring.

For some reason I thought this was about James Rosenquist.

I appreciate Raushenberg's contribution to the lexicon of American art, but I just can't get "in" to him like I can others. Like, I am way way more pumped for the Munch show at MoMA

i sort of feel like that.

i love one or two pieces by him. he had amazing taste and a i adore his color choices. But after seeing four or five of them i'm ready for a new artist.

unless this show exposes sides to him that i've never seen (which is very likely given the poor track record of art history)

I believe myself and a few friends will be taking the bus to New York to see this show within the next two months. Possibly staying overnight. I'm pretty excited, if it all happens to come together.
