Just ordered a copy of that David Sylvian rec a few days ago myself after some glowing comments from Dusty and others. Sounds like it must be a very good one. Guess it's gonna be released in the US at the end of the month but seems the UK import can be had for around normal price. At least mine was only about $11 new. Really love that sound. He's pretty unique and is almost always surrounded by a group of first class musicians.

Hey, Davey -- you and JC seem to really like that National record -- you think I'd like it? You usually have me pegged pretty accurately.

EDIT: I had to add about half my votes. Most of mine are going to be down in the 137-way-tie-for-last, second-to-last, third-to-last, etc.

I like it better than Out Like a Lamb - it brings back some of the hookiness and morbid quirks of The Rats are Coming - but it does have a few tracks I could do without.

Your love of Spoon is semi perplexing. I find the second half of Gimme tedious. I can send you Lucero and White Stripes to make good on the monger if you want.

Great, underapprecitated band. It seems all the people who like Bloc Pary or Babyshambles should really be pushing this band.

Yeh, I was surprised at how little attention this release got. Maybe the band's getting too good to be accepted as "indie" anymore.

Never heard of this? JAIL>?

I'm not sure why "Gore Veil" would be the track anybody'd pick as representative of the Deadly Snakes - it's probably my least favorite on the reckid. And, to answer Loogs, yes jail. Stuff like "Sissy Blues", "Debt Collection", "So Young And So Cruel", and "Let It All Go" are like a garage band mix of Nick Cave and Beggar's Banquet - and I suppose there's a bit of a problem with that, 'cuz if you're a Stones fan there's not enough swagger, and if you prefer the melodrama of Nick Cave this'll sound too restrained. But fuckit, you shouldn't be listening to a Deadly Snakes album to hear the Stones or Nick Cave anyway.

It makes me happy to see this on people's lists, but I feel like it should have been on way more. It's a pretty underappreciated record, just like Supper was.

top 25 for me. i bumped it all around all year. the truth is that it might be my favorite record by callahan, just because it is just slightly brighter than the rest.
