This has always been one of my favorite works. A strange combination of literate "chamber rock", and cool, alternative reality sensibility. Melodic but rocking. The perfect setting for Cale's chilly but hungry voice.

On another board I read that Little Feat was the uncredited backing band. This seems bizarre to me. Will not compute. Is this true? Anyone know how that would have happened?

Wow. I hadn't heard that. That'd up my respect for the Feat, that's for sure.

Just looked it up and yeah, Lowell George and Richie Hayward were prominent on the album.

I think you're right about Little Feat - and I would imagine that Lowell George and Cale shared a similar interest in, er, extracurricular activities, at the very least.

Little Feat were also the backup band on Robert Palmer's Pressure Drop album. Those guys played with everybody. Here's a list of projects from their homepage.

Wild. Would not have thunk.

I do really like that album though. Very much a grower.

I put that tidbit up at Hipinion, but I didn't think that you frequented such seedy environs.

And yeah, it's one of my favorite albums, too. Def. a Listmania selection.
