I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

Denying them citizenship is gonna accomplish what? You can live in this country for a 100 years as a legal resident alien & beyond the fact you didn't get to vote, your day to day life is pretty much the same. In fact, you won't get jury duty. I think most American citizens would make that trade. And if anything, by not learning English they're only hurting themselves in the job market.

I can see learning English as a requirement to qualify for welfare & would support that 100%. But if that's what Rooney means here he needs to articulate it better. This arguement just comes across as xenophobic.

It sounds like the person who wrote this was the same one who wrote the BS that George Carlin "wrote."

Impossible on its face, as George Carlin died nearly two years ago.

I think he's referring to another pop rumour from the last year or so.

Just in case there are other people who think this is spot on, here's why you're wrong. I know that this is pretty pointless, but knowing that there's an audience of at least one here who agrees with this stuff, I couldn't resist.

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Being a minority doesn't make you a victim, but (to give just one example) being denied for a job because you're not white makes you a victim of racial discrimination. If you think this no longer happens because their are laws against it, you are stupid. If you think that the effects of lawful racial discrimination that was only outlawed in 1964 has no bearing on the financial status of at least some minority citizens today, you are also stupid.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

There are no cars or baseball bats designed primarily to kill human beings. It is not unreasonable to regulate something more strictly because that is its purpose. I will also point out that cars are probably the subject of more regulation by far than guns are.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason. That is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

Apart from the name, how does anything Boy Scouts do have to do with their gender? This is a stupid one - of course the Boy Scouts shouldn't be forced to admit girls, but have they been required to by law? I'm pretty sure not, so why get so pissed? Because someone disagrees with your opinion?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

Maybe, and in some cases certainly, but I think it's obvious that many people hate homosexuality because they FEAR (often without being able to rationally explain why) social changes that conflict with their vision of how the world is/should be.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

But you don't, and shouldn't, have the right to manifest your intolerance through violence or by using laws to suppress the liberty of others just because you dislike it - to believe otherwise is distinctly undemocratic.

Quote:
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.

Right, but in most cities it is a disproportionately high percentage of black people that get arrested. I know that's a big word, but it means that if the city is 50% black, more than 50% of those arrested are black. Also, the law of probability does not apply, because each citizen does not have an equal chance of getting arrested at the outset.

You believe that people must sell you things in English? Must how? Legally? Do you realize that inability to speak English is a legally valid reason not to hire someone, and that if that person selling you the newspaper speaks Arabic, it's because it was economically efficient for someone to hire him? Don't you believe in capitalism?

Don't you also realize that when this country was founded, an enormous percentage of the settlers did not speak English? So at what point did it become only right that everyone be forced to speak English to gain citizenship?

Why did they die in vain then?

I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

Really? In every instance? What if I'm a child? What if I'm unarmed? Exactly what is your definition of justice?

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

I don't think so either. Whether you should be is another matter, but where the hell do you get the idea that it is easier for non-citizens to start a business in the US?

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

If you think that the constitution can be obviously applied to every case according to it's plain meaning, you are either stupid or have not read the constitution.

Though it would be nice if it weren't so, not everyone is rich or poor because they deserve it. Some should be pitied, and pity is not a weakness.

First, his name isn't on Microsoft's buildings. Second, are you implying that there shouldn't be any antitrust laws? Do you even know what those are?

Most likely, any perception you have of a tattoo or piercing as a political statement is based on your own projection. If you have concerns about health risks, please send your complaint to the board of health. They have very strict regulations.

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.

If you'd gone your whole life being referred to by your skin color in various ways that generally implied more than was stated, you might be sensitive to it too.

My wife gets chain shit like this all the time from lame-ass family lists. It's always the same poorly written dreck attributed to Carlin or Rooney or Robin Williams. And you can send them Snopes articles for every one, yet they don't develop a sense of skepticism about the internets.

I also get a ton of cancer-baby Christian glurge that requires the reader to pass on to ten other people - or get zapped by Jesus, I guess.

Angels and shit. Christ.

Hah hah, that was awesome. On a good day I'm clear-headed enough to express some of that, half that well. Hats off, Haq. Wish it'd do some good. And god, and the bible, an shit.
