Glad to see History of Violence get a nod, but seriously...where are Jake Gylenhal(sp?)'s noms? The guy is in/stars in two very demanding roles, and gets no love. I can only hope the Oscars are more generous to him.

Also interesting to see that Munich is not getting love either. I'm supposed to see a press screening coming up this week, we'll see how that works out. I've not been reading good things.

Also, what about Joquiem Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon for Walk The Line...does foreign press not like Johnny Cash?

Capote was 5x better than A History of Violence

I agree, although I kinda like to see HoV get some recognition due to the fact that a lot of people just went and left without really thinking about it. I think there's more substance than most viewers recognized. At least Philip Seymour Hoffman got the nod though.

Walk the Line is in the Musical & Comedy category- Both Pheonix and Witherspoon were given noms for lead role in that category, it's not considered a drama.

The nominations are decent this year. Glad to see Squid & The Whale get some nods. Also in the Tv category it was nice to see Rome and Prison Break get nominated. Though the male actors of Rome got screwed which is too bad cause the guy who plays Lucius Verenus is fucking awesome.

how is this any better/worse than the Oscars?

the only awards ceremony that was ever worth watching was that Source awards.

eh, I like awards shows for tv/film. They're just sort of fun to watch. Golden Globes is kind of fun because it's less uppity then the Oscars and there's the mix of tv and film stars together. Usually people get drunk at this thing and go on stage and makes asses of themselves.

Emmys honor the Oscars and Grammys.

Charli--noticed that just now about J and R in Walk the Line. thanks.

'Walk The Line' swept the comedy/musical categories.

Also, according to this show, Desperate Housewives is the funniest show on television.

Two things that got a bunch of nominations that I've never heard of -- the movie Mrs. Henderson Presents and some TV show called Weeds.

Musical/Comedy? What a joke - how can Walk the Line be considered against comedies?

Anyway, I just saw Constant Gardener and it was tres weak, which leads me to believe that it was nominated for its political message, which was hackneyed and forced. PSH deserved best actor. Rachel Weisz was fine in CG, but it was hardly a standout performance.

I just saw that one recently, too. I think I liked it a little better than you, but I agree the overly overt political message was a weakness, and a badly done won, at that.

I've never watched that show til last week when I was bored and exhausted and my head hurt so I couldn't read. I got hooked damnit.

Um, so I tivo'd it last night while I watched the GG in the other room.

And regarding the Golden Globes, normally they're more on target then they were last night.

I felt that a good portion of the winners were a joke. Or just not as deserving. DH as best Comedy???? WHAT THE FUCK? That show sucks ass. Even the critics have been panning it all season saying how crappy it is. So how the hell did it win against Weeds and My Name is Earl(which was ROBBED). I mean seriously, can the media get over their hard on for those women? It's sick. Most of them look like rejects from the Blue Plate Plastic surgery special.

WTL was in the comedy/musical category because of "the music". I guess if they had stuck it in Drama, up against BrokeBack Mountain it would have been spanked.

And I don't understand how a flick that wins most of the major awards all night manages to NOT win ANYTHING for its actors. That's unheard of in these ceremonies. And everything I've heard was that Michelle Williams is absolutely amazing as supporting actress.

I mean it's been obvious that Phillip Seymour Hoffman was going to steal Best Actor for Capote. But how come the film didn't get nominated itself?? That makes no sense either.

Screenplay omissions: Capote and The Squid and The Whale. Usually the Globes are better then this, this year, the nominations fucked up. As did who won.

OH YEAH, and though I generally like Lost, I would have LOVED, LOVED to see Rome win Best TV DRAMA.

My wife said the same thing. Through the fall she was in the US a lot on business and all the hotels had HBO so she ended up watching quite a few episodes. It turned her into quite a fan of the show.

I fell in love with that show. It was just amazing. The sets themselves should have won awards, most glorious sets I've ever seen in a production.

The actors were incredible, from Ceasar to Atia to Sevilla to Lucius Verenus(who I think was the strongest in the cast). I was very disappointed it was mostly ignored.

I actually had to hold back from vomiting during the season finale it was so friggin intense.

I'm just glad Marsha Warfield got an award, and was anyone else feeling as awkward as Mary Louise Parker when Chris Rock was giving his utterly horrid speech for best actress in a tv drama?
