Garden State
Sideways
Napolean Dynamite
Shaun of the Dead
Closer
Kill Bill V2
The Incredibles
Super Size Me
The Bourne Supremacy
Collateral

I still need to see Before Sunset, especially after reading the glowing reviews on this thread.

I, Robot
Kill Bill Vol. 2 (Vol. 1 was better, but Vol. 2 was an excellent conclusion)
Shark Tale (haven't seen Incredibles yet, I'm sure it'll be better, but Shark Tale still makes my list. [starts humming Jaws theme])
Team America: World Police, definitely
Hero was just gorgeous
Hellboy was far and away the best of the comic-book based movies
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence -- saw this one in the theater several times, got better with each one

Can't think of any others -- sounds like I need to see Sideways. Haven't seen Troy, haven't seen Alexander, haven't seen any of the Harry Potters...what can I say? I'm not a big movie watcher, especially compared to my friends...

Bourne Supremacy sucked, mostly because I read the book. Recently.

Spiderman 2 was better the second time, but it still doesn't get into my top tier list. Van Helsing doesn't get on my list for her accent, and the ending.

X2 was 2003, wannit?

Oh I saw Farenheit 9/11 too. I guess that makes three movies this year.

In order...

1. Motorcycle Diaries
2. Shawn of the Dead
3. Farenheit 9/11

Like a loser i tabulated the votes thus far to make a liszt . I scored like this.

1=10
2=9
3=8

an so on and so forth.

If you did not rank I just gave movies all the same score depending on how many you put down

so 9 movies all get 6
so 7 movies all get 7

So here is the liszt thus far

1. Sideways [66]
2. Garden State [53]
3. Before Sunset [52]
4. Kill Bill Vol. 2 [48]
5. Napolean Dynamite [39]
6. Shaun of the Dead [37]
7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind [35]
8. The Incredibles [32]
8. The Motorcycle Diaries [32]
10. Farenheit 9/11 [28]
11. Hero [19]
12. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [16]
12. The Bourne Supremacy [16]
14. Team America: World Police [15]
15. Super Size Me! [12]
16. I, Robot [10]
17. A Shark's Tale [8]
17. A Very Long Engagement [8]
17. Saved! [8]
20. Troy [7]
21. Baadasssss! [6]
21. Bush's Brain [6]
21. Closer [6]
21. Corporation [6]
21. Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism [6]
21. Tarnation [6]
27. A Dirty Shame [5]
27. Bad Education [5]
27. Ghost in the Shell: Innocence [5]
27. Hellboy [5]
27. Saw [5]
32. Control Room [4]
33. Touching the Void [3]
34. Oprn Water [2]
34. The Passion of the Christ [2]
36. Collateral [1]
36. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou [1]
36. We Don't Live Here Anymore [1]

A glorious way to waste company time. I hope to update this as more votes come in.

These have been updated to reflect OPA's picks

My Top 10...so far...

01. Before Sunset
02. The Motorcycle Diaries
03. A Very Long Engagement
04. Shaun Of The Dead
05. Tarnation

06. Napoleon Dynamite
07. Sideways
08. Garden State
09. Open Water
10. We Don't Live Here Anymore

The top 5 were all extraordinary movies, yet the bottom 5 were decent. A lot of bad movies this year.

I still intend to watch Bad Education, The Sea Inside, The Keys To The House, Open My Heart, and Vera Drake.

for what it's worth i didn't think that it was that great. decent but not great because the script is just kind of tired and yet everyone does a great job with what they're given.

I agree with chase. It's decent. I enjoyed the performances by Mark Ruffalo and Laura Dern mostly but the movie itself was okay. It's a lower budgeted version of Closer with four stars fucking over one another with one performer standing out from the rest (Clive Owen, Laura Dern).

Rock you in the face next time I see you

I need to see Before Sunset...I actually caught the first one on some movie channel not too long ago and was sucked in.

Re:Sideways...Is this actually good, or is it "good" like Election and About Scmidt were "good"? That is to say steaming piles of crap that you all bought into the hype on? Not that I'm accusing anyone of that, or even accusing Alexander Payne of sucking outright....just wondering.

Let's just say it didn't blow me away. It was decent, even great at times, but overall a little too blah for me.

Loog,

I thought Election was a good movie. Your Devil's advocate position is greatly weakened by the fact that of the 8 movies you saw one was Troy. I mean you must of believed the hype to go see that turd. Oh wait the hype on that was negative. So really there is no excuse unless you were getting blown in the theatre.

Sideways is definitely not just good in the "you're supposed to like it" way. In fact, I don't think I'd even call it something you're supposed to like. It's even kind of corny in spots, but it generally rings true, and is genuinely funny in many parts, and enjoyable throughout.

Well, I did take yo mammy with me.

I understand that I have barely a leg to stand on, but I tend to pretty much hate most movies I see.
Troy was a flaming pile of dogshit, but that doesn't mean that Alexander Payne makes good movies. I probably don't "get" them, being a simpleton and all.

Yeah I'm a low budget junkie. The lower the budget, the higher my interest. Although some of the lower budgets I've seen this year have been horrible. A Home At The End Of The World to name one. I generally watch indie flicks in the theater and the more major studio films on dvd or cable.

EDIT: By the way, Pagoda, I noticed you didn't include Before Sunset, Motorcycle Diaries, Shaun of the Dead, and A Very Long Engagement on your list. Is this because you haven't watched them or simply didn't like them?

I think I would go to more movies if it weren't such a chore. To see anything like you're talking, means a trip to ATL...to see any of the bigger budget stuff means Newnan, or Reeferdale (south ATL exurbs) and their attendant high school age rednecks and thugs.
