It just occurred to me that I am in the lobby of a hotel at the AL DA's Conference.

These dude pretty well look like the Steadman's pics.

Other random thoughts for today:
All the songs on Moon Safari without words are better than all the wongs with.

Joaquin Phoenix should be beaten to death with his brother's femur bone for his horrid performance in Walk the Line. I didn't know 'acting fucked up' was the same as 'acting like a developmentally challenged person.' I seriously doubt that Johnny was that damn SERIOUS all the time. Witherspoon, on the other hand was great. I would think that watching the dailies the director would have noticed his lead actor was acting like he was mentally retarded?

Hotels that host business conference really should provide free wireless internet, and have some kind of cell reception inside the building.

I hope ayah would approve of my look: fine tailored grey pinstripe suit, white shirt, cuff links, no tie.

I wish I had some head phones to listen to that Portastic album.

Why cufflinks but no tie?

I agree with your Air comments, although that goes for 9/10 of their songs.

Why everywhere doesn't have free wireless is beyond me. Having to pay is so 2004.

Didn't feel like tieing a tie, and the only shirt I had left from the cleaners requires cufflinks.

It's kind of a billy look. I like it. Casual elegance.

I was gonna cue this up in a little while. I got so damn much to listen to, but I'm curious to hear it.

I'm sorry to hear that opinion about Walk the Line. I hadn't seen it yet, but had read that a lot of country folk who were around when JC was wrecked up weren't quibbling about the performance too much, so I was hopeful that it was good or at least as accurate as it should be.

I didn't think Jaoquin was awful. Not great either. Just okay. Witherspoon was really good. Overall the movie was just okay too.

It seemed overly dramatic. Like his whole life was spent drunk and high on pills, pining after June...like a hairlipped retard.

Another thing is -- why did they let him sing? 1) he's not a singer 2) He didn't do a good job. Why not just overdub his parts with the real Cash?

I could go on...the funny thing is, by overdramatic, I don't mean wrecking cars, abusing otehr women's bodies and souls, or waking up in the drunk tank -- you know shit people do when they are in that frame of mind?? I mean, mainly he just walks around looking like he's in a daze.

I refuse to see that movie because of Joaquin. I can't think of a movie he hasn't at least contributed heavily towards fucking up.

Thanks...I thought you would approve ;)

To top it off: cufflinks were my granfather's silver circles with a piece of onyx in the middle. Very simple. Almost like a target.

Though the one's I wish I had are my dad's: Silver .45s

The reason Phoenix sang instead of a Cash overdub came from The Man himself. They met only once over dinner when the idea about the film was being floated. Apparently JC told him he's got to do the singing because if folks wanted to hear him sing they could buy his records or watch his concert clips (or words to that effect). So that was Johnny's decision on that one.

Now overdramatic? I can see where yr coming from by the clips and trailers I've seen. That was my first impression was that it seemed he really threw himself into it, and that could easily go over the top. Eh, I'll probably see it anyway.

Yeah, FEMGAR prattled off some nonsense about Johnny and June liking what they heard/saw before they died...

And he doesn't do a horrible job, but he doesn't nail it either...So then you start to think it's one of those things to draw people in "He does his own singing."

I also hate the scene where he's trying to nail Folsom Prison, and then later Jun is doing THE EXACT SAME THING, trying to nail "Ring of Fire..."

and then they don't even tell the story of him FUCKING DREAMING the mariachi horns in his version.

This movie will ALWAYS be unfairly compared to Ray, but one of the neatest things about Ray was, they showed all the quirks and coincidences that led him to where he was. (Meeting Quincy on the street, etc) and there was just none of that "for the fan" stuff in Walk the Line.
So, the acting was bad, the music wasn't great, the plot was plodding, and all you are left with is Cash as re-re stalker and his weirdo dad....
The more I think about this movie the more I hate it,

In other telecommunications news, hotels are blocking cell phone signals in their rooms and lobbies because they are losing tons of money on missed phone charges. People are using cell phones instead of making calls from their hotel phones. So, hotels in the U.S. have imported a German-made device that blocks cellular signals. The equipment is apparently illegal, but it’s not stopping hotels from doing it. If you need to dial 911 in an emergency, this is bad news. Just remember that it’s happening. And, if you’re traveling and are in a hotel, you may need to go outside.

HAHA, you wanna freak people out. Openly refer to this city as "Bombingham" in public. They get nervous.

I was driving downtown yesterday and saw a roadblock. I said "I wonder if its a King Day parade, or if someone blew up a church."

On that block, they had out the bombsquad, 3 streets down: parade.

Then I got home watched a PBS doc on King. Weirdest/awesomest part was when Andy Young was describing how he was acting just minuted before he was shot.

The rest of the band's sound made up for his singing for me. And I didn't think he was that bad. He didn't sound JUST like jc, but then nobody but jc did.

However, I agree with the plot issues. Point: Ray. I also was the victim of knowing the Folsom show too well, and didn't understand why in the hell they felt the need to change some of the dialogue, when it was funny as shit in the first place.

Example...

real life: "What are y'all drinkin outta them purple cups? What is that rot-gut stuff anyway?"

movie: something about "how do yall drink that YELLA WATER?" and holds glass up.
