same here, although just social, not so much a butterfly. i tend to observe and listen rather than participate in inane banter.

hence my presence here (and absence at obner gatherings in austin)

its actually gotten a lot worse. for a long time i would refuse to interact with people and because of this my social skills have suffered severely. seriously retarded when it comes to social stuff now, but i'm working on it. i'm thinking of seeing someone too

You and my bro should hang out. He lives in Austin, but he's kind of reclusive. 8) He has a few friends up there...

sounds disastrous. does he play tennis?

Haha. He used to play tennis. In fact, my dad teaches it for a living. Anyway, my bro is basically a big music geek, computer geek and health nut.

really, does your dad teach in austin? i've been wanting to take some lessons

Houston. But it'd only a 2 1/2 hour commute. :D

No wonder you people think Arrested Development is the funniest shit in the world. You've never been fortunate enough to hang out with a group of genuinely funny people.

i gotta say i don't get the phone thing.
first:
everybody's got four phones, call waiting, caller id and still NO ONE PICKS UP THE PHONE!
second:
what is so fucking scary about making a phone call? my ex wouldn't even order chinese food. i had to do all of the calling and it made me crazy. (hence my overreaction to this topic)
my daughter is bad too.

major pet peeve.

I'm kinda weird about the phone thing. I don't have problems making phone calls, but the odd thing that I do is if there is anyone else in the room with me, I'll leave the room to be alone to make the call.

Can't really explain why.

It's the fucking phone you shut ins!!

Jesus, if you can't talk to people on the phone, you need more than professional help. You need a priest.

I always thought it was funny to accuse all of you of having no social lives, but I guess it's true.

Maybe its funny because its true.

There's a bit much confession in this thread.

Nothing wrong with that, but weren't you all supposed to be The Cool People or something?

I thought you were like Jason Priestly but you all a bunch of Ian Zierings. The humanity.

I have no problems with social anxiety, thank God. In fact, I'm the opposite. I don't shut up.

You and shiv need to become more comfortable with yourselves -- there's nothing wrong with being alone.

I'm a shut-in, but I don't have a problem making phone calls. It's "first contact" that I have a problem with...with which I have a problem. (I, too, need to get rid of my "valley girl" accent/grammatical construction issues/whatever.)
