That's like, tonight. We go on around 9-ish, give or take.

This is a song - a pop song:

Well your "location" is awfully close to the title of the song I posted in the YSI link...

All the more reason why the band should travel to my part of the universe. ;)

yes yes, i remember. i didn't know you or victoria, but i used to live right down the street from great scotts in allston, and i saw some excellent shows there, including a couple of shows that rank in my top ten or twenty:
my favorite was of montreal, by about 1/3 of the way into the show the bar (which was maybe 2/3rd's full) had completely stopped talking, everyone was watching the band, captivated by how strange and tight they were.
were you at that one? do you remember how they closed with 'more than a feeling'? that show fucking rocked.
Also, how did you ever book the wrens, and sufjan stevens? i saw both of them play there, they were both excellent, and I'm kind of in shock that those bands would play such a shitty bar :D

Shitty bar? It has dramatically improved beyond the old profile. We were the first band to play there when we moved the Plan from its initial venue and it was quite shitty then...at least, the clientele left a lot to be desired.

But now, I can't imagine preferring another venue in town (full disc: I no longer book there nor have anything to do with it these days). I really enjoy watching bands from the side of the stage, since you get to see the crowd response at the same time...

The Wrens are friends of me and Thom Savant. They use a booking agency which represents a lot of other, similar clients. That set things in motion for getting groups like Of Montreal (I bailed on that show, but wish I had made it). Sufjan was technically opening for John Vanderslice at that show, which is funny to think about in retrospect...

'Cause he's the full time booking agent for a rock club and has a kid. Dude has no time...

i don't doubt that the bar has changed a bit since i lived there and occasionally frequented it. i usually liked the crowd on 'plan' nights, but the plan was an oasis for that place. any other night of the week, it always seemed like a trashy BC bar, even on other nights when they were having live music. I guess i can never quite get rid of that bad taste....
In terms of setup, when you had a good band playing there with a good soundman, you're absolutely right, great scott's can be the best venue in boston. i watched many shows from that corner off to the side, just like you describe.

i forgot about john vanderslice, as i don't think i stayed for too much of his set, it is quite ironic that sufjan opened for him.

have a good show tonight

I was at all three of those shows (I think Wrens played their twice). I hated Of Montreal though.

You mean he is a loser now like me? Except I don't book rock bands.

Well, that was actually a really good show.

Charles Wren came out and we're back to trying to get some Wrens-Savants shows set up for the late winter/early spring, hopefully in and around the DC area. I'll keep y'all posted...

I also met a very nice person from the band Palomar last night. I forgot that I'd seen them a few years ago and couldn't get their songs out of my head for weeks.

Anyhow: http://www.myspace.com/palomar
