It's endlessly frustrating that the characters will never ask the obvious questions (say, for instance, Jack to Other: "Well if you don't want us here on your island, wouldja mind telling us how to get the fuck off?") or ever tell anybody else what they know ("Hey gang, gather around--we just talked to the Others and they took all our guns! And one of them was the hairy guy on the boat who took Walt! Wait, did we forget to tell you they took Walt?").

Regardless, I'm still enjoying it.

It's like the whole "don't go in there!" thing with horror movies. TV dramas seems to use a lot of the same plot devices to draw things out and build tension and suspense. The characters never ask the right questions.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode, and I don't get why there are so many naysayers this time. How was this worse than last week? Not that it was all that important, but we did finally see what happened with Jack's marriage. I also prefer when the story focuses on those 4 key characters: Jack, Sawyer, Locke, and Kate. Plus we saw the leader of the Others again. Next episode looks good, too.

Last week we learned more than we really needed to know about a formerly mysterious character, Eko, and we saw Charlie's stash. We also got yet another eerie/improbable connection between one of the survivors and the island (Eko and the drug plane). Big deal. Eko is cool and all, but I thought it was a pretty thin episode.

I don't have to waste energy thinking of a response when Ish has done a lovely job of that for me. Ditto. Thank you, Ish.

No doubt. It drove me crazy in season 1 when the "monster" eats the pilot and they return to the camp and there's no discussion about it or even mention in following episodes. Same thing with the polar bears.

But, I'm still enjoying it also. It's frustrating often, but it's grabbed my attention like no other tv show has in a long time.

I think what it comes down to is Jack is a control freak and feels the rest of the group is safer not knowing how scary the island really is. Sawyer is secretive and only talks about what he feels like talking about. Locke thinks Jack is full of shit but understands that most of the survivors view him as the leader.

Probably people like Michael and Hurley HAVE discussed the polar bears and the black smoke and the Others with the remaining survivors. It just hasn't been featured in episodes. Probably Hurley and Sun are pretty prominent among the rest of the survivors when Captain Jack Tiberius Kirk and his officers are traipsing about the island. There should be an episode about that.

Did anybody think, just for a second there when he was standing in shadow, that the "chief other" was Jack's dad? My wife and I both said it as it cut to commercial. It took our son to figure it out for us. I swear, his voice sounded identical.

Yeah, I think Sun's dad and Jack's dad are going to wind up having something to do with the Project. I think they're more important to the show that it appears.

They do on Veronica Mars. I always compare these two, even though they're completely different shows. Both are dealing with mysteries of some sort that need to be carefully revealed, but VM's writers seem to never be afraid to reveal information, where Lost's writers seem like they're hoarding a secret that you know is going to turn out to be a let down. In fact, it almost seems like VM's writers dare themselves to give out clues in order to keep the writing sharp - every time they've revealed something, it's been substantial, but they pair it with a new mystery or facet that hasn't been explored. Lost just seems to keep stringing us along. I'm still hooked, but the show's nowhere near as satisfying as I'd hoped it would be - or Veronica Mars.

(Seriously, do any other Obners watch VM? If not, you're missing out - for example, where last season's Lost finale was a total dud, Veronica Mars had, hands down, the most intense season finale I've ever seen.)

Whoa, Lost's season finale was a dud? News to me.

Hurley: How am I supposed to keep track of who knows what around here?!

I'd also like to see them ask the obvious questions. I'd understand the questions being unanswered, but at least we'd see the characters don't suffer a lack of common sense.

And because it's free, opinions must be overwhelmingly positive at all times? Maybe I should reconsider According to Jim as well.

For the record, I think the show is consistently good to great. I can't recall an episode from season 1 or 2 where I thought, "That SUCKED". I'm just not a Jack fan, with his backstory last night being a bit of a drag because they've fleshed out his character's achilles heel rather well already. Next week's Charlie's Back on The Horse will probably be good too, but he's also not high up on my favourite characters.

Guns and police uniforms, which were picked up by some people, including the girl that got thrown in the water at the begining of the episode. Seems like they're making an army of fish people.

Yeah, it was completely lame. An incredible letdown. I'm not the only one to feel this way - all the Lost boards were full of people who felt exactly the same, and we were most definitely in the majority.

But if you thought that season finale was good, Veronica Mars would have put you in the hospital.

The Alex who brought captured Kate to the bearded due was Rousseau's Alex.

So, how long will it be until Walt is rescued? I say he summons a polar bear to distract the Others, then runs to find his dad. Three episodes, tops.
