A friend of mine has stayed at the Comfort Inn in Long Island City (mere blocks away from the MOMA-affiliated PS1 Museum):

I always stay at this place when I don't crash with my folks in Philly and take the train.....Pioneer Hotel, 341 Broome Street, Greenwich Village, NY 10013 .......212-226-1482 or (888) 782-9722. Last time I stayed it was 99 bucks for a double bed and 2 people but that was with your own bathroom. I think you can share a bath (not sure why you would want to unless you're on a really tight budget) and it was $75.00. But it's been about 2 years and I'm sure the rates have gone up. It was clean and had running water and no animals to speak of but the folks that actually lived there were another story. The location was good too. But I'd say fuck it and rent a room at The Chelsea Hotel. I just listened to Lloyd Cole's cover of the Leonard Cohen song this morning. Plus you can piss off the guy that works the front desk and ask him all kinds of questions about Sid and Nancy.

now one of my friends is trying to bail on the hotel idea and get a hostel for herself and another person. fuck. this makes the cost go up so much for myself and the others.
who gives a shit if you sleep in the same room for one night? it's one night. i just want to go to new york and see the goddamned rauschenberg exhibiton and if it comes down to it i'll take the fucking bus at 1 AM, get there at 8, be delirious because of lack of sleep but I will fucking go see the show during the day and leave when the bus runs back to richmond that night.
fuck

I've gone solo on a quick trip to NYC before. I went to see Tom Waits at the Beacon and left Ohio at 4am, got to NYC at 11am, walked all over the city, checked out some art, went to the top of the Empire State, bought some cool records, saw the show, had some Thai food, left NYC at 1am and was home and sleeping in Ohio by 10am. It was so worth it. I think if your friends don't go (which I have no idea why they wouldn't) you should do it anyway. You'll be glad you did.

I did a search and I came up with loads of Hotels in Manhatten in the $120 a night range.

How do you go to a show, then have food, and still leave the city by 1AM?

Thanks for being so generous with my apartment, Timmy. ;)

Anyway, CP, you'd be better off staying at a motel in Queens. There's a HoJo in my neighborhood that's pretty decently priced (probably under $100 a night) and seems clean.

Actually, Timmy stayed there when he visited NY so he should be able to give more info.

It's the Howard Johnsons on Queens Boulevard in Woodside. And Manhattan is only a 20 minute train ride away.

The Howard Johnson was fine. It was tiny as hell, but an easy enough train ride into manhattan. Plus they had delicious mini muffins for breakfast. The room was so small, it was hard to walk around in it, haha

If you're going to pay more than $200, I'd go here:

http://www.70parkave.com

I had reservations there last year for New Year's, but had to break them last minute. I've been really pleased with the Kimpton line of hotels. Nope, no free breakfast, but they've got some cool amenities and it's in Manhattan.

It's $2 per ride, but you can buy a unlimited fun pass for $7 and use it for 24 hours.

The HoJo room was very small when I saw it, but if it's just you and a friend, it's fine. There's no way you're fitting 5-7 people in a room at the Marriott, let alone, the HoJo. You're not going to Chattahoochee, you're coming to NY, so learn a little class before you get here. If you're planning on fitting 5-7 people in one room, go to a homeless shelter.

I need to learn how to get some money before I can learn how to get some class.
We down here in the south making moonshine don't know how to make no money.

Does it have 2 double or queen beds?
2 in each bed.
1 on the far side of each bed
1 between the beds
1 or 2 on the floor between the beds and the TV stand/Dresser
1 on the chair
and even 1 on the bathroom floor or in the tub.

You can tell OPA!s never been on spring break.

And since when is Queens classy?

Is that a threat or a promise, big boy?

(And though I know Bloor, I'm not him) 8)

I have one question before I answer that...is your height proportionate to the rest of your body?

I just found a Best Western in Manhattan for 199, but it says you must be 21 to get it but every hotel says that on Priceline. I have a feeling that it's not true, and if I have an 18 year old present their ID I will be fine.
I think the toll is up to 8/9 people. Once we figure out if everyone can go.
Awesome.

That's crazy. You can find a motel that would charge you half that a night in Queens or NJ. People coming from out of town don't realize that depending where you're staying in Manhattan, the train ride from Queens or NJ may be shorter.
