Since I'm older, give most to my wife and kids, making sure they INVEST MOST OF IT for near-guaranteed future growth. My son is an accounting major and he and my daughter are WAY more $$$-savvy than I am. Would take a portion, move to Hawaii, buy a decent house on the beach (probably North Shore Oahu), wander the beaches daily ALONE or with my wife, eat at the local food establishments, go body-boarding in safe waves on tourist friendly beaches that didn't have Hawaiian locals wanting to beat me up, look at the waves and surfers, go to concerts/clubs in town for the music, record my own beach-acoustic music (NOT like Jack Johnson's), play occasionally out in town, and take LOTS of naps in a space where the warm wind blows and the sound of the surf lulls me to sleep. Screw owning a business. I'm too old to like sex anymore (not like it was EVER good), so I wouldn't be cheating on my wife with hotties who were attracted to my $$$. I would again spend time making sure my kids' and our $$$ was invested properly for long-term growth. THEY like to spend $$$ and do things: I don't, usually. Then, since I have depression, knowing that I'm getting older and physical infirmities ANYTIME could throw me into a deep mental pit from which medication COULDN'T deliver me, I would put a local physician on salary and on-call, to set me up with a state-of-the-art suicide method, after consulting with my daughter for the proper RX's, who does hospice-placement and has HORROR STORIES of many people who get insufficient palliative care, for when it got beyond my endurance.

I'm quite willing to be a live in caretaker should this happen. I'd suggest Dowanhill as a location.

does anyone on hear really buy lottery tickets?
i read "somewhere"
that odds of just knowing someone that wins
(and would be willing to toss you
a few hundred thousand)
are better
than actually playing and winning
so..
im just calling everyone i know
and telling them i love them

It's all about what we are doing here now -- dreaming.

The way I see it, it's worth a couple of bucks a week to be able to dream a dream that has a chance of coming true. Even if that chance is infinitesimal.

What is the price of a dream like that?

i wouldn't want to give anyone anything (besides my parents and charity)
but i would like to set my close friends up so they could do the kind of work they wanted to be doing. They all have dreams from running a restaurant to being a music producer . .. i would set them up so they could do those things.

myself:

i get a big house that had a recording studio and a huge place for me to paint.

i'd buy tons and tons of art from living artists.
and maybe start a record label.

i would buy a big yacht, hire a crew, take a few friends, and just chill for a few years - hang out in the meditteranean for awhile, the caribbean, etc.

then come open up some kind of business or come charity to run - just to have somethign to do.

I'm not sure I'd change a whole lot. First thing I would do is pay off all debts and take some time off from work and make an album, do some work around the house (studio, HT room, audiophile listening room, storage room) if my landlord lets me (I plan on staying here long term).

Then again, I may pick up and move out to a desert in the midwest.

Hook up my parents, sister, charity, this one really cute waitress at a local pancake spot (anonymously)

Buy a house in Hancock Park & build a movie theatre in it

Go to Europe & find a great spot for a vacation house

Go back to college. Get a masters in film. Set up a film theory class in a local high school or two & teach it even if I have to pay for every penny of it.

Amoeba. Daily.

Rent Disneyland for a day & turn Main Street into a giant Roller Disco

Luxury box for Kings games

No. Its not my thing.

I buy 'em, though not frequently. When the California Lotto starts inching over the $25mil mark, a lot of us here at work throw in a buck. Cuz well...ya never know.

As for what I'd do:

. Definitely pay off the bills
. Set up accounts for my mom, sis and her kids
. Tear down and rebuild my mom's house
. Get the best possible medical treatment for my mom.
. Build a Victoria-style home with wrap-around porch, huge yard with a picket fence for my doggies and chickens to run around in.
. Hire my own chef to prepare nice, healthy meals
. Hire a personal trainer
. Buy a vacation home in Scotland, probably either on Isle of Skye or near Loch Lomond
. Buy that bitchin' ass Canon camera I've been eyeing with all kindsa nifty lenses.
. Find a great investor so that my millions would gain a shitload of interest on a daily basis.
. Travel all over the world -- while travelling, I'd call up random friends, tell them an airline ticket was waiting for them at the airport, pack their bags and visit me at whatever chateau/villa/flat I was staying at.

I'd proposition women that would normally have nothing to do with me.

buy boots, and a dress.

Also. I'd get a plane ticket to visit Tom Waits.
I'd ask the homeless guy I talk to how I could help him get back on his feet.
