Yeah, thanks for the heads up on that tom---bitterbuffalo and I just changed our reservation and got a room at the Indian Palms as well. It's $65 a night cheaper than the Best Western (you saved us nearly $200), and within walking distance. It is a 3 night minimum, but you're going to need that anyway if you're coming in on Friday (which I'd highly recommend).

you obviously haven't met my friends. especially the ones i'm staying with.

they live and die for coachella. no joke. oh, and they don't call us the "rockstar crew" for nothing.

PS: BTW, I was just able to 'preemptive strike' book a room at puma's recommended hotel @ $199 night with 2 queen beds. Marco said they told him it was sold out, but that seems to have changed. I can split it w/ 1-2 others if you PM me pronto.

if that's the case, we should have a pre-coachella party friday night. i tell you, it's ALL about the INDIAN PALMS! ;)

Fuck yeah! The jacuzzi and pool area is the place to be after a long day in the desert.

I'm thinking I just may have to give up my sobriety that weekend.

quick questions...

what time do you guys usually head out to the festival? how long is the walk?

are there any restaurants near the hotel? taco joints a plus. also any liquor stores.

also, i'm praying that the lineup is close to what the fake flyer is. that will be magic.

My friends and I like to get there right when the doors open. We tend to leave our hotel room around 11:00AM. Doors open at noon.

how long is the walk?
It'll probably take you about 20-25 minutes, depending on how fast you walk. Believe it or not, we don't walk, we take the car. Mainly, because it's the fuckin' desert and hotter than Hades. But, also because by the end of the day, we're beat and look like walking dead.

The restaurants are closer to the main highway. They all close early (10pm-ish), so don't think you're gonna find somewhere cool to hang out at after the gig. There's a Foods 4 Less grocery store up the street which tends to be our booze stop before hittin' up the hotel.

We always stock up on grub and booze (take two ice chests) before arriving to the hotel. I'm taking my electric frying pan again to make breakfast burritos (chorizo with eggs, potatos and eggs...). A hearty breakfast gets you a long way in the desert.

Hope that helps.

Can't answer this one, as we've always had to take the shuttle. We usually get there about 1 pm, as we're usually up til 3 or 4 a.m. the night before drinking and gambling at the local casino. That's the beauty of Coachella--it doesn't start until 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

are there any restaurants near the hotel? taco joints a plus. also any liquor stores.
Again, not sure about restaurants near this hotel, but most provide a continental breakfast, and there's plenty of grub at the festival---although you need to try the local In-n-Out Burger at least once. There is all the liquor you'll need at the local grocery stores--we usually load up when we arrive on Friday night.

also, i'm praying that the lineup is close to what the fake flyer is. that will be magic. Word.

umm T, looks like I'm eatin' breakfast with you. :D

we'll probably leg it to to the festival, and hopefully have enough energy to make it back.

we'd like to stock up on alcohol and food on Friday, so when we're at the hotel, we're sorted.

we should arrange a meal on Friday night with all the Obner folks.

Hotel does have a restaurant -- it is a resort after all, but I've never visited it and have heard the food is marginal.

we head out 1-2... the walk is about 20-25 minutes. make sure you bring h2o on the walk. last year the walk wasn't that bad, but it was walking back after the festival that was a bitch. however, the other room had drove, and the cops were being asses about letting them onto the street of where the hotel is at. hence, that's why we walk.

are there any restaurants near the hotel? taco joints a plus. also any liquor stores.

my advice to you, get booze BEFORE you check in. we always bring ice chests and stock up on the booze. there's a circle k (or some gas station) off the freeway exit which sells beer.

there's a restaurant at the hotel, and they serve all you can eat brunch if you get there at a decent time. they also sell breakfast burritos. i'd avoid going anywhere else around the hotel, it's packed as hell.

plus, pool + jacuzzi= good times.

PARTY! fuck yeah, i can't believe everyone was able to get rooms. so stoked. :rawk:

you know what would be awesome? if all our rooms ended up on the same strip. 2 years before, we had 3 rooms which were near the pool, and tania's room was just a few over so there was a HUGE party between all the rooms. good times.

chad- what are your plans? bueller? bueller?

seriously. another reason why you want to stock up on booze BEFORE you check in, after the show on sat, the cops shut down the main rd. around the hotel... so it's really hard to get in/out.

just sayin from experience.

won't be able to do the Indian Palms, sadly. I'm game, but my buddy and (more to the point) his girl can't swing the cost of that place. So we're kickin' it Minutemen style* @ a Travelodge about 12 miles away. All we need is beds.

But I could probably convince them to come in and Obner down for a while on Fri night if that'd be cool.

haha...Chad, i called that Travelodge prior to calling Indian Palms, and they were all booked up.

Friday night sounds like a good night for Obnerfest 2006. I'm going to try and remember that we've got a festival the next 2 days though. :D
