The recipe is correct, there, C. You're staying social and active. I say again: bad things happen to nice people too. Come out better for it.

Wise words. No, like I said, what I've been happiest about with this unexpected tryst is that it's been happening with friend who is staying a friend. I have grad school, she's got a life, and friendship is all that's going to happen. I need to get out and make friends and learn more about myself for quite a while before I think about long term relationships. My wife is the only woman I've had sex with, and I don't really have any experience with dating, so I'm like a clueless fumblebum who is realizing that he might actually have a really good time with all of this.

It's my ex who is immediately diving into a long-term relationship without doing any of the work needed to heal, she is already pressuring mutual friends to accept him as a part of the group, which means that I'm going to have time share friends, and will have to make sure that I don't wind up drunk and at a bar with my ex (she still hasn't handed over the divorce papers, for chrissakes!) and her fuck-buddy, which would result in WAR at this point.

I'm just trying to play it slow, heal, and be a good person, be someone I can be proud of being with all of this.

Oh, and I am still going to counseling, starting with a group, starting to play soccer, forming a band and working on myself . . . yay me!

TRIPLE-YAY, COLIN!!!! You sound like a very interesting guy.

One word advice, though. Don't tell a woman you've only been with one woman until you're sure you want to have a relationship.

Some women can find that very sexy! And they might just consider you a challenge.

I think the other women here will back me up on that one. Men who've had too many lovers become a jack of all trades, but a master of none.

Edit: typos

chicks ARE cool, all kinds of chicks, but i do flip out over tiny little midwestern girls. Like that 7th grade teacher who acts like we're friendly when she needs her computer fixed.

grr.

But yeah, she hasn't turned me off of tiny chicks.

The chick i'm with isn't tiny (in stature). Few inches shorter than me.

I figure, most people are the same height lying down, more or less. Give or take half a foot.

good lord Colin, i leave for a couple of days and you rebound like a champ. I know you probably still have a lot of stuff to work through at this point, but I wish I had a fraction of your down-to-earthness.

Thanks.

I do have a lot of stuff to work through, but some very quality people on and offline to work through it with. I start group therapy next week, and will probably still see a one-on-one counselor. Thanks about the whole down-to-earthness thing . . . i'm just amazingly lucky to have a really good long-time friend who also (apparently) finds me cute. It's like training wheels, I think. Trying to build something called "Colin" out of all of this mess in a way that I can be proud of. I sure did need that attention that I got last weekend, it's been the first time in a long time that I felt attractive (doubly so if you count that thread where I talk about the keys player from my education hitting on me).

Oh, okay. I'm more of a full-disclosure kind of guy, figure that if it scared anyone off it'd be for the best. Although I kind of see your point, right now I'm looking for getting to know people, not drop back into a full-blown relationship.

Just because I can count my partners on one finger, that's for me an asset? I don't understand women. Although after nine years, I knew the topography of that one pretty well.
