my computer runs very loudly when I turn it on and the system doesn't boot?
I can't know exactly what "very loudly" means, but I know that when my hard drive died last summer it spun up with a very disconcerting - and loud - sound . . . and did nothing other than that. I find it hard to believe that a hard drive would die in a year like that, but it's even harder to believe a fan would die - those things last for years. But if it were overheating, you'd at least see some action before it overheated.
What do you see when you boot up, Tania? Does the screen show anything at all? And if yes, what? If no, do the lights come on on the front of your computer?
Oh, and if this is like a Dell or something, you might want to make sure you aren't voiding your warranty by opening the case.
It doesn't boot, that's the problem. And you're right, for the HD to die after only a year (not even a year) seems unlikely. I have an e-Machine -- they're getting a call later today.
Btw, I don't want to dismantle it since I really know nothing of the inner workings of the computer. Don't wanna blow a gasket or something!
