I've skied since I was three. I will never snowboard (though I did start skateboarding this year.) I have not been out yet this season, which is retarded. I used to race in university. I was OK.

the thing about going fast and pushing your comfort zone is that it makes everything sooo much easier...i.e. truly carving vs. "sliding" down the slope.

of course there is a fine line between going fast and skiing out of control...but once you learn to trust your edges, a whole new world of enjoyment opens up.

oh, and i'm doing this in 2 weeks:

san juan snowcat

did it last year, and it was the most amazing skiing i've ever done. as i described it to ish: imagine you and 7 of your good friends having an entire ski resort to yourselves with every run having untouched powder.

highly recommended.

i skied for a really long time, then one time i went to colorado and tried to teach myself how to snowboard. i lost my edge and flipped, and broke my hand at the top of a 2 mile trail. so i had to board down the rest of the trail, with a throbbing hand, which took me about an hour because i had to stop every 20 feet because i sucked at snowboarding while all the rich assholes skied by me saying "NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STOP." and i was all, "thanks asshole."

haven't been back since

I've skied a few times but haven't been in probably more than 10 years, and I'd always wanted to try snowboarding. I enjoyed skiing but really don't think I'd want to go again from the day after pain I remember.

My center of gravity is near my neck, so neither for ne anymore.

Though I have skiied of 3 continents, all before I was like 15 or so.

I don't think I have been skiing since 11th grade. Or been to the dentist ;)

I love skiing -- it's the closest to flying I've ever been.

I just bought a board this year and am going to go for some lessons next month. I figure boarding will feel a little more natural to me since I used to skateboard quite a bit, although I was a lot younger, so there could be a major flaw in my logic.

I've never done either despite living within 20 minutes of a mountain for 18 of my 24 years.

When i first snowboarded with some non-skating people who knew i used to skate, they said "it's waaaay different to skating, you'll be just as bad as everyone else."

Idiots. It is exactly like skateboarding. Except easier. Waaaay easier.

I find it similar to skating, but with lots of glide. Getting used to using your edges is what takes some getting used to.

For this reason, that I started longboarding last spring, I feel like I could hop on a snowboard and carve some esses no problem.
