The music is decent at times - the vocals are annoying

I think it landed around #10 or 11 on my shmoo list. But I also called this a very down year. The value of my opinion is certainly questionable, though.

It's a good album if you haven't yet had enough of that sound. I initially thought it sounded too much like a band trying to sound like Interpol trying to sound like Joy Division. But after a few more listens, I probably like the Editors disc at least as much as the Interpol albums. They get closer to the essence of Joy Division at times than Interpol, and actually have the occasional lyric that isn't too embarrassing to say out loud (unlike Interpol, who reads more like Coldplay when you strip away the music ).

But to be honest about it, the Editors CD can get a little irritating for me after awhile, but I do like it a lot in smaller doses. Some of the songs are very classy. Just doesn't capture enough of the rapture that elevates JD and Echo and their other influences to such heights. And the in-your-face sound doesn't endear them to me either. Doesn't really fit the music which should have a more open sound. In fact, that probably contributes a lot to my irritation. Be nice to hear it with a less aggressive mix and/or mastering. My true favorites each year are usually those that I can put on repeat and listen over and over and ....

Is this a 2005 release, or 2006?

It came out in the UK in 2005.

I found out shortly after I started the thread that this has not been released in the U.S. yet. Ah well......

I believe they're playing SXSW. They just played LA a couple of weeks ago.

The album is enjoyable... didn't make my top 20 though. However, their live performance is MUCH better than the album.

yep, they'll be at SXSW...so hopefully I'll be able to catch their show...I need to get a psuedo-schedule for SXSW together so I'll know if I'm looking at any conflicts

the album has some great songs, but it also has too many duds to make my Shmoo poll

This is so how I feel about this album. It might have to do with having splates saying that it only has three good songs on it. I listen but never have the desire to play it. There is something that is lacking and I can't put my finger on it but Davey might have done that for me.

The Clor are so much better...

just heard this for the first time this week.

it may sound like interpol, the bands who sound like interpol, and whoever it is that interpol sounds like, but it does so in such a way that it's still one of the better albums i've heard this year.

i cannot stop listening to it.

For those who have iTunes, there is an Editors song offered as a free download, the song "Munich."
