Well exactly... 48 points higher than Let It Bleed....right.

I do have to remark that I like to see Jehovahkill on any list... one of the great unrecognized masterpieces.

Ha...sorry, missed your post, try not to be redundant.

You like Peggy Suicide too? Play them both a couple times a year anyway...

No need to apologize. I viewed it more as you getting my back then being redundant. That album needs more not less praise.

I dig Peggy Suicide too, although not as much as Jehovahkill and Autogedden was an outright disappointment coming on the heels of those two. Still been meaning to track down his 2005 release. Have read good things about it.

What I wrote out earlier today:

I will admit that I like or listen to a bunch of these albums over the years. When I think about the best of the best a lot of these aren't the albums that would come to mind. This list would be fine for an individual but for a major music publication it's horrid. I didn't think the NME could sink any lower but I'm constantly wrong.

Regarding the Cure, it's interesting that The Head on the Door is the album picked when over the years it has been Disintegration that most have said is their classic. For me both would be in the Top 100 but I'm geekie about the Cure so.

Since it is so titled to the 90's where the hell is Loveless?

Well I have to give credit where credit is due. Thank to NME, in addition to these comments, this album will be seeked out next and heard because I want to know what all the fuss is about.

A couple of more of these I will check out as well but already know most.

This list is just part of the huge promotional campaign pushing the Artic Monkeys. Note the 15% off at HMV coupon on the front of the magazine.

However putting that aside, I don't really see why people think the list is so bad since, as far as I can see most of the albums on it are very good albums. I own about 15 of the Top 20 and I'm sure most of you do to. What's the objection? Aren't Buzzcocks, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kate Bush, Joy Division or Pulp (to take a small sample from the list) good enough for you?

OK, I wasn’t drunk enough but I’m going to try anyways:

Quote:
The Stone Roses – S/T

Personally one of the best albums ever made but when you put it up against some of those Beatles albums or Rolling Stones albums it sounds rather hollow. Either way I cannot say how much this album change everything about me so…

Quote:
the Queen Is Dead

Great album but more around the 25 mark if you ask me

Quote:
Definitely Maybe

Love Oasis but their B-side are better

Quote:
Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

fucking joke you have to read the other board for…

Quote:
Modern Life Is Rubbish

great album but Parklife is better

Quote:
Different Class

Fucking classic, fuck the haters. Yes it really is one of the best albums ever, yes ever!

Quote:
Revolver

I was playing this at work one day and a customer came in and heard it and ask me what this was. I said it is the greatest band of all time, she said who? I than gave her the CD, and said this might be the greatest rock album of all time but it’s by the best band the world has ever seen. She said this is amazing and I have to go out and buy this today…

….

I have more but that is all for now…

For the most part, people aren't bitching about the selection that much; it's the order.

Other thoughts:
- *yawn*
- The Streets are awesome.
- Yay for Jehovahkill!
- Change the damn smiley already! (please)

I don't have time to get into it, but IMO, there are some outstanding albums in this list, some of which are my all-time favorites....but the ranking is just absurd.

Arctic Monkeys are a talented young band, but there is no way in hell they should be at #5. Also, The Kinks at #25? Revolver at #9? Fuck off.

How was this list compiled? In some ways, I think that NME are putting this out as a piss take.

Dalen you get it, and I know that but you have to prove it every once in awhile...

Bee, I say this in the best possible way (meaning directly):

Many of your posts have a tint of unwarranted elitism that you've never backed up with substance. There is a tone which says "all the rest of you are not clued-in to greatness like I am" that's at once patronizing and incredibly immature. Perhaps you don't mean to sound this way, but it's there.

Yoiu want to proclaim that there are "get it" people and "don't get it" people on a music geek board, go ahead, but it's not going to endear you to the music geeks.

Us-against-them has always has been a ridiculous way to present oneself.

I think you should judge a list by what's on it and not the actually rankings.

I mean do you really expect a group of people to select 100 albums from 10,000's and then rank them exactly to your preference?

If so I think you should go outside and get some fresh air.

Yeah, but then the follow-up point is bitching about what got left off. Otherwise there's little point of publishing the list. It's supposed to spur debate. But putting Arctic Monkeys higher than The Kinks is not going get much affirmation from music wanks.

I pay attention. I know the majority of people taste of this very board. I take this music thing way too seriously, there is no wonder why I have gravitated to ILM.

My favorite poster is Davey, because he can tell you why he likes what he likes and break it down to the very core, most if not all can’t or won’t do that.

Radcliffe, Billzebub and Billy G are our very best posters now that WhineyCMJ and Fastnbulbous have gone on to ILM only.

Dalen is NME, I fucking love the guy but he is over the top more times than not.

So I come across crass at times but I really don’t mean to because I love Obner, there is no board like it.

I know everyone’s musically taste, so even though I come across like some elitist scum I actually know your history. Just because you might not know what I (might) because I don’t know shit, know doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than anyone elses. Don’t talk out of your ass by saying that the Beatles are a horrid band, Obner did a great job on that thread BTW.

I’m not sure what else to say but I love you guys on Obner and I hope I have carved my own little nitch on this amazing board.

Way too drunk, going to bed!

Holy crap, Bee. I mean, holy crap.

Personally I don't give a lick about convincing people WHY I love or hate something. If I feel like being passionate on a particular day I'll do it, but otherwise, no.

I post here for goofs and titters, not to bog my butt down in detailed subjective analysis. There's too much to do on a daily basis at home and work to kick my brain into that kind of gear.

If you like that, fine, but you're still gonna get snickered at everytime you hero worship and call it critical analysis.

But you seem like a pleasant dude. Maybe a bit too much coked-up here and there, but hey.

JC's always been spotty, IMO. When he's on, he crafts untouchably great pop songs. Saint Julian, My Nation Underground, half of Fried, a fair chunk of Peggy Suicide, World Shut Your Mouth, the original Teardrop records--all fall into this category. If you can still find 'em, check out Skellington and Droolian--came out just before Peggy Suicide. I got to see him a few times in the late 80's, and those were some of the better live shows I saw at the time.

However, when he starts to meander, I find him to be tedious--he flirts with this quite a bit as early as Fried and some of the Teardrops stuff that got left off Wilder and Kilimanjaro. There was a lot of this on Peggy Suicide, which makes the record quite the schizophrenic affair for me. Because of this, I never gave Jehovahkill much attention, nor anything after that. I may need to remedy this.

Btw, I love the Beatles. Also think fans and critics have spent four decades looking for lyrical DHM that's not there. They were lyrical larkists, silly people mucking about in the studio, having fun. "Paul, what's this one about?" "Well, it's got a meter maid, doesn't it?"
