I just played it on my 2600 emulator and the same damn thing happened to me too.

i'm assuming that they didn't fly to alamagordo and dig up a landfill, right?

And, for the record, I actually have an ET cartridge at home! Awful as it was, I played that stupid game all the time. Once you got stuck in a pit, it was like crack. I actually did get out occasionally. Joystick up until you get to the top of the screen, then left or right IMMEDIATELY and you'll be back on solid ground (but likely close to death.)

atari buried them because they couldn't sell them and tons were returned. there are like 5 million in a NM desert.

That is supposedly one of the worst VCS/2600 games of all time. Hard to believe anything could be worse than their Pac Man though.
