Holy crap, Bee. I mean, holy crap.

Personally I don't give a lick about convincing people WHY I love or hate something. If I feel like being passionate on a particular day I'll do it, but otherwise, no.

With 20 posts for every 1 of mine, I'm sure you bleed more passion by accident than I do on purpose :)

Been listening a lot to that Nine Horses CD lately and I can start to see why you put it at the top of your list. I'd probably do the same now. Some truly mesmerizing music. That polyrhythmic sound of "The Banality of Evil" just knocks me out every time, especially with those soft but skronky horns. Some great backing vocals throughout too. Nice stuff.

I guess there are a few of us then. We should band together, weak become heroes.

My tea is up.

Bee, I say this in the best possible way (meaning directly):

Many of your posts have a tint of unwarranted elitism that you've never backed up with substance. There is a tone which says "all the rest of you are not clued-in to greatness like I am" that's at once patronizing and incredibly immature. Perhaps you don't mean to sound this way, but it's there.

Yoiu want to proclaim that there are "get it" people and "don't get it" people on a music geek board, go ahead, but it's not going to endear you to the music geeks.

Us-against-them has always has been a ridiculous way to present oneself.

I take this music thing way too seriously, there is no wonder why I have gravitated to ILM.

yeah, that's the problem. it's the fools that feel the need to analyze music all the time that need to stop and actually enjoy music for once.

yeah great, you might know every single album released in 1976, or you might be able to write some ridiculous, uniformative review on an album, but how much do you even enjoy music anymore? probably not much.

that must suck.

However, when he starts to meander, I find him to be tedious--he flirts with this quite a bit as early as Fried and some of the Teardrops stuff that got left off Wilder and Kilimanjaro. There was a lot of this on Peggy Suicide, which makes the record quite the schizophrenic affair for me. Because of this, I never gave Jehovahkill much attention, nor anything after that. I may need to remedy this.

I don't disagree with you on Peggy Suicide. I love it for its strong points, but it does meander. Jehovahkill is a lot more consistent. I personally think its his best album. Stay a way from Autogedden though if you find Peggy Suicide tedious. I was disappointed enough with Autogedden and its immediate followup (forget its name) that I stopped automatically buying his new albums. I think I only still own Brain Donor of the post Jehovahkill releases. I'm sure there's at least a gem or two I'm missing. Have heard good things about the last one and Citizen Cope.

I also think there's a fair chance that we were at the same Julian Cope show sometime in NYC in the late 80's.

Man, you can't hate Common People. The rest is take it or leave it, but that's the best Bowie song since like 1973.

That might be true, but Bowie can bite me.

I guess "hate" is a strong word for my feelings toward Pulp. I put them in the same category as many of the bands in the top 15 of that list - the Stone Roses, the Smiths, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, the Verve, Primal Scream (and, not in the top 15, but throw the Cure in there too) - and that is: bands that are the Britpop equivalent to Weezer or Foo Fighters. They write pleasant enough ditties for mainstream airplay, and they mean a LOT to a certain age group, but I think a little bit of perspective is called for when making statements about the "greatest album of all time."

Grandad?!?

Seriously, though I agree with regard to Verve & Oasis on that list, I don't think even a Radiohater like you can get away with putting them (or Primal Scream) in the "pleasant Britpop" category. Radiohead has been far from pop for awhile, and certainly doesn't sound like much else I'd call "Britpop."

Except that the Radiohead album in that top 15 is The Bends, and if wimpy cack like "High And Dry" doesn't qualify as a mainstream ditty I don't know what does.

So I guess when we apply this perspective the "greatest album of all time" will be something from when you were a first year in college.

I'll never get what people like so much about The Stone Roses.

Also, I sold that Pulp album in high school, but I'd kinda like to hear it again.

Not at all - and that's exactly my point. For example, most everybody here is aware of my love for the New York Dolls, yet I've never made the claim that the Dolls put out the best album of all time. They may have put out two of my personal favorite albums of all time, but I'm not quite stupid nor arrogant enough to insist those albums dwarf the likes of Exile On Main Street or Blonde on Blonde or Revolver (etcetera). It'd be kinda nice if Stone Roses fans had even a quarter of that humility.

The Cure Britpop? What are you talking about? I know you don’t like them but still to call them Britpop is absurd. Sure they cross over to the mainstream with a few songs but I don’t think you could actually call any of those albums Britpop.

I can honestly say that the Stone Roses debut album means more to me than any other record i've ever heard. I guess that's why I claim it's the "Greatest Album".

Why are the Stone Roses so great? I respect the Manchester sound but post punk, electronica, dub, etc. had all already been around. If someone could legitimately say they influenced My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, The Orb, Slowdive, etc. my ears might perk up a bit more but otherwise the Happy Mondays and Primal Scream (while both really good) are kinda unimpressive in the long run with only an album a peice that's truly remarkable. And I equate the Verve to "one hit wonder". I mean how many American lists do Marcy Playground show up in?

then you're an idiot

the early verve singles are fantastic - comparable to MBV and Slowdive who you listed
