It's full of spitters, Rodney.

And swallowers.

As opposed to this board where you get fart jokes.

I am not always a fan of the tedium that is ILM... but to say they "think" they know about music.. is perhaps singlehandedly the most idiotic thing Ive read today...

then again, perhaps people that write for Allmusic, Village Voice, and the other rags dont really know about music, not as much as Dalen.. but then again who can...

You're right of course...and I'm sure if I cared to post topics there I'd find at least a handful of people with interesting things to say on most topics. That said, as an occasional lurker and even rarer poster there, I find most of the content to be not of much interest to me. I suppose I could say the same about a lot of the content here too, but I never got hooked there like I did here.

As far as the format goes, I have no problem with their format. Its simple, searches actually do filter out most unrelated content, pages generate fast, and its very rarely down. You can't say that about most boards.

I hate the "classic or dud" posting convention though.

Best site on the web, the knowledge on there is unmatched. The reason why the format is set up that way is so everything is archived in the search function. So use the search function.

It’s intimidating because you have to know what the hell you are talking about. Dalen even posted over there but couldn’t handle it or something. Yes, there are about 12 Obner’s who post there and some who use to post here but are exclusive to ILM these days.

Give ILM some time it becomes better and better the more you read.

BTW, can’t find your post otherwise I will tell you why they locked it. I had a Coachella thread locked last week but Ned Raggett was incredibly nice about it, and I understand, it makes for a much better board overall.

dude, you're fucking hilarious.

it's a message board for people that think they know what the fuck they're talking about, and where people like BeeOK think that those people are "music gods".

it's pretty funny to read how pathetic some of those people are sometimes.

that's obvious.

ding ding. Thats really why I dont read or post there much anymore- seems like the music was always bogged down under analysis. But to say they dont know anything about music (as others have indicated) is just ig-nant.

i read it, sometimes post.

some people are very sad d-bags and some people could match your bet and take all your money. some great music writers, bloggers and editors post on that board and are actually able to articulate why you should go check out a particular band, rather than the occasional, "holy crap they're so metal you should check them out here's an mp3, latas!!1"

but i'm with radcliffe, classic or dud is a silly concept, although i love sticking up for my '90s "alternative" bands.

Thank You!

I'm not able to articulate my point like that and don't try to come off crass but is interpreted that way all the time.

Shucks, missed out on the fun.

I am decidedly in BeeOK's corner in this thread.

I only lurk/occasionally post on ILM, as I just haven't had the time to care about contributing to yabb. BUT, the number of quality discussions on there - featuring the likes of John Darnielle, Momus, and a whole cast of silly folks - makes for great reading (particularly if you search through the archive). As with any bb, you have to tune out the noise to find the substance, as it were, but it's there.

Their skewering of online zine writing + any other writing (the Sasha Frere-Jones article) offers up some of the more enjoyable "crit crit" out there. Sure, it's terribly highbrow at times, but that's what happens when you throw a bunch of overeducated critics in a room together.

And then there's Geir.

EOD, I think ILM is not nearly as obtuse or self-serious as some folks think it is.

I might have to sign up at ILM as I desperately try to secure an MP3 of 'You Supply The Roses' by Memphis.
