<--- used to show up half-way through film class, coffee in hand, and still manage to fall asleep... (but it was an 8am class and the lights were out for film watching purposes)

I've had some trouble adjusting to my new (early) job... luckily I have headphones and the Velvet Underground.

I've never fallen asleep at work in all the years of weekend, split shift and random early hours. Plenty of times have been noticeably wiggy, though.

I read that as "splif shift". Gosh, I wish.

As an electrician, lotsa times someone has to crawl up/into some tiny space on one side of a wall while the other guy drills / feeds him wire, just to make sure nothing bad happens. Went up into a lady's attic one morning at like 8:15, tired as shit, and waited for Q to get his ass down there below me and start drilling. But it took him like 20 minutes to get the shit ready, so I lay across the ceiling joists just right, with one under my ass, one under my knees, my feet, then my back and finall my head. Zzzzzzz.... followed by "Hey - you ready up there?" 20 minutes later.

I kinda freaked out when I woke up... that shit is scary when you don't know where you are, and the answer is "some lady's attic."

 and the first thing you feel is insulation.

You know what else is freaky? The first time you wake up in a top bunk. You're like, "I'm in bed", so you start to get out and then, WHAM! Height.

that makes me think of a few years ago when that emo-brat band saves the day faked their soundscans and wrote down that they sold more cd's than they actually had pressed.

Don't most bands do that?

Opened my eyes, and saw rafters right over my face, but barely, because it was fuckin Dark up there. Stunk like "attic" too.

Yeah, but pretty much everyone exaggerates proportionately ("realistically"). They got caught because what they declared was impossible.

Nah, that was 70's radio. I was too young to be in on that.

There is at least one office worker out there even worse than me because when I worked for an asset management company a new guy started in the department who was fired the same day for being caught by one of the senior management sleeping in a conference room when he should have been at his desk.

It was the only time I've seen someone being immediately dismissed that wasn't me.

There's a dude here who pretty much takes a nap every afternoon.

All of the fulltime people here have fairly large, nice cubicles that they can fill up with stuff and arrange how they want. They also have really dark carpeting and aren't well lit so when he lies down to take a nap, he covers up with a dark blanket and pretty much becomes invisible. I'm sure pretty everyone in the office knows about it now, but it's still pretty impressive.

I wonder how much that one episode of seinfeld has done to damage the national economy?

Yeah, I agree with that. But when management doesn't agree, and they catch a floor napper, they can him. Turnover is NOT good for the economy.

I used to work nights at this DIY store, shelf-stacking, one of my dream jobs. The management were really lax so around 2am every morning i would head of to the carpet department. There used to be a gap between the two aisles in the carpet section and i'd grab a couple of rolls of carpet, lay them out in the gap and crash till 5. Never got caught.

I also worked 6 months as a security guard at this derelict school. Hours were 7 till 7. I was on my own so at 10pm i would crack open a beer & roll a j. I usually crashed around midnight and set the alarm for 6am. Best job i have ever had. Ended up getting fired for lateness.

That reminds me of when I worked at this warehouse, my buddy Phil made himself a completely invisible from the outside bed in the racks where we kept all the stuff. Of course I would wait until I knew he was asleep and then bash into the rack his bed was in with the forklift. Hilarity ensued.

Yep, between that and the hockey game we invented with a tape ball puck and promotional item golf clubs as sticks was a pretty damn good job.

Now that's just plain scary. I mean, I realize this is common, and my sympathies go out to the late night security guys always (being a late night person myself, I've run into them alot), but what happens if you need to pull a gun or something?
