anyone know anybody in a threeway relationship...not like a sexual threesome, but a full on emotional long term relationship? somebody i know has recently formed one, but all three people involved haven't had what you'd call a stable emotional history, collectively nor on their own.

i don't know how someone wouldn't end up getting their feelings hurt with something like this.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if they're going to be all dysfunctional about it...

Isn't the term polyamory?

Anyway, a female friend of mine went to a party with a bunch of those types. It's funny, they're all so certain that they're expanding the emotional/sexual template and being free, and yet they've got so many relationship rules that it'd choke the life out of any couple I know.

Also, one of the guys is the owner of a brewing company, and he holds sex parties in one of his brewing vats turned into a hot tub. Needless to say, I've boycotted that particular beer since I found out.

Polyandry is more than one husband.

Polygyny is more than one wife.

Polyamory is sex neutral, which would also be more, ahem, flexible.

Lived with a couple girls in this sorta thing when i was younger for about a year or so. It was fun and actually worked out pretty well for the most part until we just drifted away...still talk now and then. It helped that we were all very laid back people...and were all heavily self-medicated most of the time anyway.

Still, there is more opportunity for drama than in a two-person relationship and we didn't exactly go in it for the long haul. I'd be pretty surprised to see a grouping like that last for a lifetime or anything. You end up with the same issues you get in two-person long-term relationships...just multiplied exponentially with greater numbers and all that.

If you're just looking for interesting sex...you're much better off leaving the extra person in the relationship out of it.

... and Polysix is... ME!

I had a great martial arts teacher years ago. His wife was into martials arts too and would sometimes take part in the class. She was really cool; they had kids together and seemed to have a really great relationship.

Anyway, once we had a female substitute teacher come into class when the guy was away. I found out years later that the substitute teacher was actually also the wife's lover--i.e. all parties were aware of the situation and cool with it. Yup.

I do this all the time. Take this evening, for instance. I've got Handsome Dick's Underground Garage show on the Dish Network, and I've got the two cd carousels loaded with the first two Cheap Trick albums. If HDM plays something less than stellar, zap the receiver over to "CD" and rock out to Cheap Trick. After a few tracks, I'll zap back over to HDM.

It's all good.
