Anyone listening/watching this right now? I've been watching for the past 15 mins or so...Bush is literally babbling. What an embarassment. He started off somewhat okay but once the press started asking him questions, he just lost it. Egads!

I think it's part of his strategy - Act stupid, and stupid people will re-elect you.

You know, I turned to NPR this morning in the car, and heard part of this. At first, I thought it was just them replaying a previous press conference, but then I realized it was live. He did sound like a complete and utter moron, but what's new?

answering questions was never his strength.
that and speaking form scripts. he's not good at that either.
or owning baseball teams, not good at that either.
managing a business, not so good.
planning war strategies . . . not what i would call a strength.

his wife seems really nice.

I'm not sure it was about anything in particular, but he did address the Rummy question, privitizing social security, and other questions about the war and election in Iraq. I didn't hear all of it. I think it was just a standard press conference.

Who else would you have recommended?

I could have seen a dual-award, to Mel Gibson and Michael Moore, for being utter douchebags and coarsening the nation's (exaggerated) rifts, with extremely popular but not necessarily productive films.

And, I liked the idea that they might have gone inanimate again -- see: machine of the year (personal computer, '82 (I think), planet of the year (endangered earth, '91) -- and made Blogs the ??? of the Year (and have everybody from Dashboard Confessional to Atrios to the peoples from the Note on the cover, DC representing for all the Live Journalists all across the world).

But, otherwise: what? What?

I think, hard as it is to admit, they picked correctly. Especially if it's a dual-award, Bush and Rove. I mean, the man won the presidency, in the process swinging his performance from gerry-rigged and fraudulent in '00 to (generally) clean and inarguable this time. All while an unpopular war rages, the economy continues its "Clinton" recession swoon (maybe I need a [sic] after "Clinton"?), and the tax burden is shifted to wage-earners who can't get a decent wage anyway (see point two).

Quite impressive, really. Quite.

Well said, my friend, well said.

Like I said before, they boiled it down to Faggots vs. Jesus, and Jesus won in a squeaker. Personally, I was pulling for the chicken, but whatever.

Thanks, Ol Gar. Coming from one in your profession, and even if it drips a pinch of sarcasm, I really appreciate it.

As to Faggots vs. Jesus, I am still waiting for one of the wing-nuts to out Jesus, just like that gentleman profiled on the Daily Show a few years back who outed Abraham Lincoln (I mean, he lived with a man before he married Mary Todd). And, with Jesus, if you take the view that he did not marry -- which is the consensus, save for Scorsese's '88 feature ("Last Temptation...") --, then in what matter, with whom did he get on with his freak? I doubt that his message of universal love and brotherhood was enough to get his rocks off, so, you know... He did hang with those twelve men a lot. He got a "rise" out of Lazarus. He didn't stick it to Mary Magdalene (this assumes the non-Scorsese view). Obviously, then, Jesus was a fag. A flaming homo. Yup.

WOW! This is what we call in these parts a) cutting a wrestling promo, and b) Throwing Jebus under the bus.

Nice moves, Sr. Mongoose 8)

I'm just relieved to find out that Rummy is "a caring fellow."

I had doubts, but Georgie set me straight.

Yup. After Bush's 2nd term he'll be hosting his own children's show.

So, you're saying he's a child molester? Wouldn't surprise me. Although I bet he gets more of his jollies from the pictures of soldier's returning without limbs.
