Paid for a guitar on ebay. Seller is being uncommunicative and vague. Makes me want to punch and punch.

Wait until you (hopefully) get it, and then just flame the crap out of the guy on feedback. What was his, btw?

Have faith first. It may seem bad, but then turn out ok... people have shit crop up. I haven't done it to anyone, but it's happened to me. Shit may work out.

If not, send Loog after him.

If you paid with Paypal they or Ebay will usually refund your money if you don't get the product in a certain amount of time.

There's certain things i wouldn't buy without seeing in person, I'd want to play the guitar first.

Some guitars (ie solid-body, bolt neck, known brand / make like teles and strats) I'd buy unseen in a sec, as long as the price is decent. Not much I couldn't fix / tweak on one of those, and VERY little that could be hidden when you know what to look for.

Acoustics? No dice. Hollowbodies and set necks neither.

I probably wouldn't buy used drumsticks.

Don't do that unless he's already given you feedback. Otherwise, you'll be getting a negative right back. And Shiv was right--if you paid with PayPal and it never shows up, report it within 45 days.

I buy really cheap stuff at flea markets and the like. Call me old-fashioned, even though I AM 20 years old haha, but I'm not huge on on-line shopping. Though I should make the jump pretty soon if something catchesd my eye.

Tell the guy "I tried to play John Fahey's 'On The Beach At Waikiki' and it came out sounding like Tommy James. Gimme my money back"

i don't think ebay will refund your money.

i purchased a dvd last year and the mother f'er never sent it to me. i looked at ebay's guidelines as to what to do...and i think they basically referred you to a company that would try to collect your cash for you (but i think you had to pay them to do it.)

$8 dvd....wasn't worth it. i didn't pursue it.

(or something like that. i don't completely remember the specifics. but look on ebay and there are instructions as to what to do when something like this happens. i know you can request to get the seller's phone number. though i did that in my case and when i called, it was the seller's dad's cell phone and the seller told me he was sending the dvd the next day but never did.)

Yeah, duckyboy, I was assuming that he knew that.

I had an experience similar to DayStar's with a DVD, but instead of not sending it, the guy sent me a region 9 DVD. I wrote him explaining that it wouldn't play in my DVD player and he refunded my PayPal account. No problem. I even got to keep the (useless) DVD.

Only other negative experience I've had was a guy not sending a CD to me until a few months after I'd ordered it. Turns out he went on vacation before the auction ended and forgot that he had sold it??? He sent it on in quick time. So...

What is he being vague about? Is he not answering questions? Not telling when he will ship the guitar?

I don't think I could ever sell something like a guitar on e-bay. I pretty much stick to music and stuff. I get shakey enough as it is when I sell a CD that goes for a lot of $$$ because I am afraid the buyer will say they didn't get it or it broke in the mail. The latter happened once. I just sold a Jars of Clay CD for $76.68...

Yeah and it's only 7 songs too.

Hell I don't care. I saw it for $7 at a used CD store and knew it would sell for way more than that so I picked it up. There are 3 Jars of Clay discs that are worth lots of $$$$. Their demo goes for about $200 or so.

Shit, I may have to go in search for Jars of Clay CDs so that I too can make a killing. That's just crazy!

haha These are the ones that are worth $$$...

Frail Demo...usually goes for $150-$200

Image

Front Yard Luge...usually goes for $50-$80

Image

The White Elephant Sessions...usually goes for $25-$45

The latter 2 pop up occasionally in used CD bins real cheap because used CD stores have no idea what they are worth. However, I have never actually seen the first one.

Paypal has up to $1000 guarantee. I bought a cell phone and the guy didn't send me all the parts, like a friggin battery or the ear piece. I went thru the paypal buyer protection program. All I had to do was send it back to the guy with a tracking number and when the number came up in the system as the guy received it,I got my money back from paypal. I wonder if I could have sent him an empty box...

Yeah they do. I've done it a couple of times. You're guaranteed of getting what you pay for with Ebay, or your money back. I can't say for certain, but I think if Ebay were to not give you your money back, they would be accomplices in a crime, would they not, being the middle-man and all? Either way, yes, you should ALWAYS fight for whatever you bought, regardless of how much it was. I've complained about $4 CDs that were either not what I bought or were pirated copies. You may think you're making too much of it, but imagine how many people this seller is likely also doing this to.

It's essentially a backup guitar - a '05 tele, so I'm not hugely concerned about quality. It just drives me crazy to not have a tracking number and only the vaguest assertions that "you'll get it soon." It's gotta be a matter of laziness. Nobody likes to pack shit it up and haul it over to the UPS place, but c'mon.

I hate the idea of having my cash tied up while this guy gets off his couch.

same thing happened with me, but after waiting about 6 weeks past my payment, I filed a claim with ebay and got my cash back. It was only $8 as well, but it's more of the principle. I heard horror stories about how hard it is to get refunds, but it was surprisingly easy, at least for me.

I ordered a board game for a friend for her birthday a few years back. Her birthday falls around Christmas and this was the first time I didn't receive what I ordered.

I waited about a month and it didn't come but I figured, "It's Christmas. The mail is busy. I'll wait." Her birthday passed and finally, about a month and a half later, I filed a complaint with eBay and PayPal. The guy kept telling me "It's in the mail. Just wait."

They told me that, since the auction had closed over 30 days ago, they couldn't do anything about it. Then, eBay finally relented because they said it was my first time, looked into it, and, two months after her birthday, told me they found in my favor.

They said they'd reimburse me for the cost of the item, before taxes and shipping, minus a $25 fee of theirs.

In other words, they'd give me $4.25 to make up for the fact that the fucker stole $42 from me and I had nothing for my friend on her birthday.

For the record, if you pay via PayPal, the seller is obligated to ship within 7 days of receiving your payment. That is in PayPal's TOS. So, if you don't get anything within 2 weeks of paying via PayPal, consider a chargeback. Don't let a seller string you along till 30 days passes, just file. (I think you get 30 days from EOA to file).

Also, in a dispute the seller must have proof that they shipped.
