how is it awful? I can understand not liking it but awful seems a little strong especially considering you actually like The Pixies.

just curious.

Capt. Beefheart - "Electricity" done by Racebannon.

I like the original a lot, too.

Racebannon does some good covers; "Death Valley '69", "Oh the Guilt", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" are all great, but I wouldn't call them "inaguably" better than the originals. "Electricity" definitely is, though.

I'll also agree with the people who like the original version of "All Along the Watchtower" better than the Hendrix one.

Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel the Noize

What are you - high? The Quiet Riot version mimics the original in every aspect - so how can it be better on any level? It's like saying Great White really shined up a turd with "Once Bitten Twice Shy".

Because Kevin DuBrow is the right type of obnoxious prick for that song.

He'd probably make that "singing" noise that he does while y'all did it, too.

I mean its awful in the same sense that you can say you got a bad steak or a bad beer. Are any beers or steaks really bad, generally no. But we say that they are bad in relation to other beers and other steaks. If you prefer, its an awful version of a great song. On its own merits, maybe its mediocre. But I prefer to call it awful, because I really hate what they did to the original.

"Got The time" by Joe Jackson covered by ANTHRAX.

ANTHRAX blew that shit up! I play that track over and over sometimes.

Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles and Cake's version of I Will Survive are also better!

I like Buffalo Tom's version of Going Underground better than the Jam's. Shoot me now.

I won't deny that that Anthrax version is a great version, but some time later (after that version was big), I went back to the original, and it doesn't hurt that it's a breathlessly good piece of songwriting.

I'm uploading it for you now.

EDIT: http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3JWE ... 2L36OGP2FF

I put in the original version from Dynasty and the unplugged version from the late 90s. It's probably one of my favourite covers actually.

i just want to say, lest it be left as the only undenied "better cover" in this thread, that Todd is cracked out of his head (metaphorically, this time), for thinking the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide" is "great."

I have never been in-step with the rest of the board, it seems.
I'm the leader of Hop On Pop, remember?

That's what I'm saying! You're not the leader of "Hop on Shitty-Ass Nu Country."

Ok, but seriously, what's great about the cover? What is it if not a note-for-note rerecording of the original?

Nice banjo.
Pretty harmonies.
And, compared to the SP version... it's flippin' Mozart.
