Anyone been following the story of MLB trying to decide if they should retire his number? Here are some articles about it. What's everyone think?

No way, no sir, no how...

There are many people who deserve their numbers retired before Clemente... and not on a leaguewide basis, either...[/code]

I think I'm with Frank:

Frank Robinson Wrote:
"Jackie Robinson was a very unique situation and historical," Robinson said. Clemente did an awful lot of good things and was a terrific ballplayer, but I don't think it's the same type of situation as Jackie Robinson. And if you do it for him, where do you go? Where do you stop? Then you neglect someone and create some big controversy."

Not league-wide, no.

Having said that, I still see him as the quintessential rightfielder.

No way. Dude has enough (over)hype as it is.

Clemente was like the 20th Latino player in the Bigs and even Tom'd out and allowed himself to be referred to as "Bobby" early in his career.

Dat. Sorry.

I agree with everyone. No way. Certainly his number should be (and probably is) retired by Pittsburgh. But league-wide? Come on!
