Reggae, dancehall, Indian music(im brown btw).

Good to know, I like lots of the indian stuff I hear ( Medival Pundits, karsh Kale) Listening to Claude Challe's Magic Carpet right now, in fact.

And I'm up to my dreadlocked balls in Dancehall 'round here, so Let me know, I can pass along some local favs

Edit: I like Spearhead and NuJazz ( hat tip to Dalen re: Hanne) and play lots of Brazilectro and Latin electronica down in the dining room, so I'd like to hear what anyone (well, not everyone) has to say in this area.

The Clean are great but i dont know any Kilgour solo

I'd say his solo albums are better than any of the albums The Clean released from Vehicle on.

A Feather in the Engine might be a good starting point, though I think my personal favorite is Here Come the Cars (don't really like the title track though).

In college, I had a roommate who referred to Rush as:
"The Band With No Soul"

I tend to agree.

Other than E. Fu, nobody here ever chats up Ass Ponys, and I'm dying to know whether they'll ever release another album. I've never found confirmation of a break up, so there's still hope...

Do you know who that is in my avatar? Of course you don't.

But since he's only released one LP in 21 years your ignorance can be excused.

they are pretty awesome.

And beachy: check out Arular, or Punjabi Hit Squad, and there are many others from the London underground, and India who are breaking out majorly.

One of my all time favourites: Jethro Tull

Ian Anderson & the band don't seem to get a lot of mention, here; yet, I'm sure there must be some secret Tull fans, lurking.

That's my fav of theirs, but ALL of their stuff is great! Treat yourself to a perusal of their back catalog, my Bellevillian friend. Speaking of which, when will we see the next incarnation of recorded Caputo output?

There's at least three of us who are adamant about it and at least two more who will defend them occasionally.

She said she was a dancer. If I believed it, it was my business.
She surely knew a thing or two about control.
Next to the bar we hit the samovar. She almost slipped right through my fingers.
It was snowing outside and in her soul.
Well, maybe you're a dancer, and maybe I'm the King of Old Siam.
I thought it through… best to let the illusion roll.
I wouldn't say I've never heard that tale before,
my frozen little señorita,
but if your dream is good, why not share it when the nights are cold?

Hey Moscow, what's your story? Lady, take your time, don't hurry.
Maybe a student of the agricultural plan.
Hey Moscow, what's your name? If you don't want to say, don't worry.
It would probably be hard for me to make it scan.
With her phrase book in her silk soft hand
she spoke in riddles while the vodka listened.
I said, "Let me look up love, if I might be so bold.''
She was the nearest thing to Rock and Roll
that side of the velvet curtain
that separates eastern steel from western gold.

Hey Miss Moscow, what's your story?
You needn't speak aloud, just whisper.
Am I just the closest thing to an Englishman?
You've seen me in your magazines, or maybe on state television.
I'm your Pepsi-Cola, but you won't take me out the can.
She said she was a dancer, so she did.

She said she was a dancer. If I believed it, it was my business.
It felt like a merry dance that I was being led.
So I stole one kiss. It was a near miss.
She looked at me like I was Jack the Ripper.
She leaned in close. "Goodnight,'' was all she said.
So I took myself off to bed.

Since I love both Supertramp and Jethro Tull, I try to stay mostly quiet about what irritates me about Rush. I love certain songs, but I think their adherence to technical brilliance and three-piece permanence often means they blur whatever melodies, hooks or memorable musicality that may be within many other songs. They need backup vocals, they need "songs" , they need less wankery and more tunes.

I respect them a lot. But overall I don't like them much.

I have Electric Rock Music, which I found for $0.99 I think. Been a while since I spun it, but I remember liking some of the first few tracks.

It's no secret that I'm a big prog-head -- love Rush, Tull, Yes, Crim, et al. They get a surprising amount of talk for a relatively indie music board.

Don't see a lot of classic rock talk, but no big -- if I have a hankering for classic rock talk, I can always go back here.

Not a whole lot of alienware talk (Fennesz, Venetian Snares, Nurse With Wound, et al), but not sure what needs to be said -- I get most of my suggestions from record stores and magazines and one certain real-life friend.

I wouldn't mind hearing some more good synthpop recommendations, most of mine are from listening stations. If it's got big fat sawtooth waves, I'm usually a pushover.

Fennesz gets occasional talk, most V Snares talk is from me or you though

I dont have any Nurse With Wound
