taking the review to new places in an apollinairien bouleversement of convention. he is the critic, the model, and the statement all at once.

haha ...yeah

robotboy's review was my favorite. I also laughed at the last line in harry's S/K review. Those and a few others (shiv, of course) made this whole blurb idea worthwhile. Nice job.

I did a pretty good job of predicting what would comprise the top of this year's list. This outcome doesn't really fuel the argument that a lot of people on here dislike stuff because of its popularity.

I'm pretty shocked Josh Rouse didn't make the Top 20. Good idea on the anti-reviews, Crack!

It's fine.

I guess it helps that I pretty much agree when it comes to electronic dance music as listening music.

I'm a little surprised by this list. Not that I expected to agree with it, but I don't remember there being a lot of discussion about 1/4 of these albums.

And I'm also surprised that Cold Roses didn't make the list. I had it pegged for a top ten finish. I'm not a fan, but I thought that lots here are. Maybe the Ryan Adams vote got split.

Post the whole list Shmoo. I'm just as interested in the 423rd finisher as the 20th.

My favorite album of last year was Black Sheep Boy and to expect Timmy to get it would never happen. Not to pick on you but you happen to review my favorite album of 2005. First the best song is reveled immediately with song two being “For Real” and than two songs later you get the amazing “Black.” The album takes you on a little adventure with the story unfolding with every song. The lyrics are astonishing with Will Sheff going way beyond his vocal range but feels so passionate about this record that it works. The honesty, passion, and chances are what separated this record for the pact and Obner got it, great job board!

I have to disagree with you and agree with you. The lyrics were fine, but the voice is just painful, and the music just doesn't overcome the vocals enough. Maybe I downloaded some unfinished demo or something, but I doubt it.
I wish I had been able to make my feelings a bit more clear. My wording just wasn't what I wanted it to be. After several proofings and changing things, I decided to stop making it worse and send it in.

i did not vote, so i'm just doing some armchair quarterbacking.

the only albums on this list i did not care for were the antony and the johnsons and the sleater-kinney one. the only albums on this list that are also on my (not really existant) top 20 were andrew bird and maybe sufjan.

i can't believe that it has not been discussed before, but next year we should make a top 10 or 20 WORST albums of the year. we could even do an inverse of this presentation and write nice things about the worst albums. it would interesting to see what albums make both lists (if that is possible).

well executed all around.

I was suspicious at first, but that idea for the reviews is fucking awesome. Well done, everybody - this is the first bunch of blurbs from anywhere that I've been able to read from beginning to end.

Awesome job. Obnizzles should be proud.

I actually think a lot of people didn't vote this year.

hell, I forgot to. I kept pushing it to the deadline and then it kinda came and went. woops.

But to answer to FT and Billy, if I had voted I would have had the Josh Rouse and Ryan Adams up in the top 5.

Do you mean the Obner majority? I wouldn't call most of it "crap", but I just have a hard time understanding how so many can consistently get excited about the same kind of thing done over and over. I don't think most of those albums in the top 20 are all that unique, special, or interesting, but I don't think most of them are bad.

On a separate note, I'm kinda surprised/disappointed that Franz Ferdinand didn't make it. Of all of the popular indie albums that I listened to no more than 3 times (MMJ, Spoon, CYHSY, Wolf Parade, New Pornos), it was probably my favorite. It prompted me to go back and listen to the first album more and gain a new appreciation of it.

There were 100 voters this year and I think 127 last year, a 21% drop.

thanks.

I think that the blurbs are for the most part an entertaining read and the list overall doesnt surprise or dissapoint me even if it's not necessarily MY list.

Thanks again to Shmoo, Crack, Haq, the Blurbists, and anyone else who had a hand in this thing. Big ups!

9/20 on my top 20. Not bad. I was a bit surprised by the top choices, though. Nice blurb, as well.
