I said maybe. Seattle's a great town. Hold out for Vancouver, BC, man. It trumps Seattle big time.

And this matters, how? There's nothing wrong with loving where you live.

You discourage folks from leaving NYC, right? This leads me to wonder if you've ever lived anywhere else outside the East Coast. I went to school back east and learned most of my peers slagged Kansas, my home terry-tory, bc they'd never been any place west of the Mississippi. There's nothing wrong with staying put, but it'd certainly do my head in if I weren't allowed to test out waters elsewhere.

And that's understandable. But nowhere did I say that Seattle isn't a great city. I'm simply saying that I wouldn't encourage anyone to leave NYC.

that's not really the point, though, Seattle being a great city. i was just wondering why you'd discourage someone from moving NYC? and while i was preparing to play the ignorance card, i'd really like to know why you feel this way. Even when it might be an improvement to MR. MR's livelihood.

my ex moved to seattle about a year and a half ago. he grew up in boston and has lived in ny, nj and most recently, chicago. he says that his favorite by far is seattle. i haven't visited yet, but from how he raves about it, i can't wait. one of my closest girlfriends moved there, too. she loves it as well, and that's coming from a lifelong chicagoan.

i've been fortunate to live in some great cities, (montreal, paris) and overated ones (boston), so i'm up for change. however, NYC is currently my favorite place that i've lived (except maybe montreal), which makes this trying. i had no idea people were so crazy about seattle, which will make this harder...

i have a love/hate relationship with seattle... first time i visited, i HATED it. second time, loved it. my mother lives in washington and she's tried to convince me to move up there but my heart belongs in la.

if the opportunity comes knockin, do it. it's not like you're married and have kids or serious commitments right? sure, ny is ny but it will ALWAYS be there. if it doesn't work out- you can always go back. if i had the opportunity to relocate and my company paid for the move and set me up, then i'd do it.

if you do move to seattle, first things first: go to the experience music project. *drool* i could live there...

The worst that could happen is you don't like Seattle and you could always move back to NYC or another city you like. From what you've told us, moving to different cities isn't a huge deal to you. If this makes your life better, than it's something you owe yourself the chance to find out.

this is a reasonable and solid argument, and it may be starting to win me over. for some reason the whole 'you can always go back' thing just doesn't hold water for me. moving around so much has taught me that this isn't usually true...

I don't understand. Are you saying that if you leave NYC, you don't see yourself ever coming back, to live anyway?

well, i'm not saying that i couldn't come back, but i find that the things that one grows attached to usually change pretty significantly in not so short periods of time. for example, a bunch of my best friends from paris still live there, and i go back to visit them when i can. yet all the places we loved to hang out are so different and the vibe between our group has changed so much, that moving back there would basically be like moving back there for the first time, except minus all the initial excitement. i doubt that new york would be any different, and things are really good here right now. i'm torn because i don't know if i'm willing to give this up yet.

i voted yes.

it's number 2 on my list of cities i'd love to live in someday, right between portland and san francisco. sf will never happen though unless we win the lottery.

it's no surprise to some here that i am completely in love with the pacific northwest. it really is a magical place...i just get this kinda strange but really great feeling when i'm there.

and just some background info so you know where i'm coming from, i'm a transplanted east-coaster living in colorado for the past 10 years.

nope, not yet. the pull of new cities is very very strong for me, as i am basically a modern vagabond. also, i've yet to actually visit seattle or see the final offer. both of these things will factor heavily into my decision. the good news is, i've got some time to think about it before i have to make my choice.

I have a friend who moved there about 8 years ago, fell in love with it, and has never looked back. He loves it.

Do what you want. What's going to make you happy. Don't ask the people here. You're not going to get the answer you want that way.

i'm just looking to find out what people think about Seattle, as I've never been there and don't know anyone there. it seems that people really like it.
