Its prolly better than most of your list, because since it doesn't really exist, it means silence is as enjoyable as the shit you rate ;)

That's a joke billy, I actually put that and the Johnny Taint album on there cos I couldn't really find 20 albums, even after putting the Stones at the obligatory #1 and Jeezy at #2.

This year's list is weird. In 2 years maybe 2 of these albums will be listened to in any semblance of oftenness.

That's what happens when you use a 4-3-2-1 scale...

Being one person's #1 is worth being two people's #15... It always seems like the bands that cut a broader swath settle towards the top...

I'm shocked these didn't rank higher:

27. Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak (38 points)
38. The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday (30 points)
56. The Ike Reilly Assasination - Junkie Faithful (20 points)
76. Portastatic - Bright Ideas (16 points)
229. Frank Black - Honeycomb (4 points)
439. Johnny Taint & The Cans of Piss - Lappin' It Up (1 points)

I'm especially dumfounded by the ranking of The Hold Steady. I truly expected that to go Top 10, not just Top 20. I thought just about everybody loved that one, except shiv and his teabag party.

Brian Eno - the father of half the music discussed on this board - one point. Yikes.

When I have time I am going to add the total of my top 20 to see how I measure up, i.e. a higher total means I am closer to the standard Obnerian taste standard.

Yeah I was thinking that too. Its far from his strongest, but its stronger than most of this top 20. I can't claim to be the one person who included it though. It came in at 21 or 22 on my list.

I just did my totals:

18. Antony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now (53 points) 3
43. Archer Prewitt - Wilderness (26 points) 2
44. Ry Cooder - Chavez Ravine (26 points) 4
74. Greg Dulli - Amber Headlights (16 points) 15
96. ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Worlds Apart (14 points) 11
127. South San Gabriel - The Carlton Chronicles (10 points) 18
144. Richard Thompson - Front Parlour Ballads (8 points) 8
163. Pernice Brothers - Discover A Lovelier You (7 points) 16
186. Vashti Bunyan - Lookaftering (6 points) 6
202. Maximilian Hecker - Lady Sleep (5 points) 7
237. Joe Bataan - Call My Name (4 points) 1
244. Nacao Zumbi - Futura (4 points) 5
280. Banda Uniao Black - Banda Uniao Black (3 points) 9
318. Salif Keita - M'Bemba (3 points) 10
349. Curumin - Achados E Perdidos (2 points) 13
372. Laura Cantrell - Humming By The Flowered Vine (2 points) 20
375. Marianne Faithfull - Before the Poison (2 points) 12
385. Oliver Mtukudzi - Nhava (2 points) 14
427. Espers - The Weed Tree (1 points) 17
443. Max de Castro - Max de Castro (1 points) 19

Which translates to my top 20 getting 195 points. If I recall Shmoo's system correctly, 50 points would be the lowest possible. So I guess I don't have much in common with the average obnerite.

I don't know if he voted or not but I don't think KPH was enamored of the 2nd album either.

And there's no teabagging in that picture of mine.

No JV?

Nope. Pixel Revolt is his first dud. And by dud, I mean it wasn't 100% flat-out awesome, like every single one of his previous albums. Even so, it had its moments, but just wasn't good enough to make my list. I hold JV to a pretty high standard, given his incredible body of work.

Damnit, I knew I should've skipped out on meeting up with FT that time he was in Boston.

No way, dude...that's still the best mix CD I've ever gotten. Plus, those lobster rolls were a wicked pisser. Whatever happened to newt?

I felt the same way about Cellar Door.

Don't feel bad. I provided 50% or more of the points for 12 of my 20. I like your list more than most, esp. the Prewitt & Cooder.
