I just bought The Clash's London Calling today and am loving it. I had forgotten how much that I like The Clash. So far my favorite songs are Hateful, Rudie Can't Fail and Spainish Bombs. I also bought The Descendents Milo goes to College and Weasel Mania by Screeching Weasel. I was feeling the old school punk today :rawk:

I wish I could discover that again. Wonder what it would be like hearing that for the first time as a man in his thirties?

Don't get as excited about discovering Sandanista.

Being the kind of person who only knew 'Rock The Casbah', then hearing this album was an awesome experience.

This was the album that got me into music. Before that, I listened to Green Day and Pearl Jam and whatever else was on the local "alternative" station (not that there's anything wrong with either of those bands). Circa age twelve or so my friend Dylan gave me the CD for my birthday, and since then I've been addicted. My number one album and band of all time.

Probably the most important record in my life, marking my cross over from adolescence to adulthood. When it came out I was 1-year out of high school. High school for me was Pnk Floyd, Supertramp and more Pink Floyd. The Wall and London Calling came out within a couple of weeks of each other and marked the first major musical sea-change in my life. 25 years later LC still influences just about everything I listen to today.

Aw, this is sweet.

Just remember, it'll likely never be this good again (not London Calling, just that you won't hear an album this good for the first time).

?!?!?!?! old school? compared to what?

Much love for London Calling though. Must be an amazing experience to listen first time through. I think my first time listening to it was in high school in someone's basement off of a rather beat up cassette dub. Still though, it made me realize the majesty of one Joe Strummer.

I only heard all of London Calling for the first time in 2003, so I was 30 at first pass. I just never got around to hearing it for some reason, though I'm glad I did. First class stuff that didn't disappoint at all. Kind of annoyed me that I missed hearing after all that time, but oh well. Better late than never.

I'm in the minority here, but I like Sandinista nearly as much as London Calling. Maybe because I heard it in close proximity to the former album and didn't have any preconceptions as to what I was about to hear.

this actually wasn't the first time that I listened to London calling but the first time I liked it. I bought the cd when I was 13 and hated it. That was when I was first discovering punk and London Calling didn't sound intense or "Punk" enough for me. I had the same reaction to Never Mind the Bollocks which I bought at the same time. I had heard that The Sex Pistols and the English Punk movement was so rebelious and hardcore so when I actually listened to it I thought that it sounded like classic rock and sold the cds. I now love The Clash and my musical tastes have matured a lot. I feel stupid for selling it back then, my dad also has this cd and he was the one who convinced me to listen to them again, and am glad that I did. :D

And honestly, I think every one of us knows which of these they would put on first if given the choice.

i heard it for the first time in my late 20's.
It hardly blew me away, i was actually surprised how uniportant and normal it sounded.

to these "mature" ears it was grower and took me a while to "get" it.
now i love it, but it wasn't a huge revelation.

This is pretty much my story...except it happened when the album was first released back in '79. I received the album as an 8th Grade Graduation present.

Oh, & replace Green Day & Pearl Jam with Ted Nugent & AC/DC.

I still remeber when I found my dad's copy of this on vinyl in the basement. It was the first record I actually played myself.

Thought it would be a good place to start. I was right.
