Used to be when we shared practice spaces with bands in athens, and there'd inevitably be that token "I'll come see your band" show, and you show up to see them play and they blow. But you have to keep a straight face, and not leave early, to be polite.

When I'm in the car with my father and he puts Yanni on.

i remember the days when my dad and i would listen to 60s soul or the beach boys in the car every single morning when he drove me to school. and now we have agreed to not listen to music when we're both in the car. although, i did get him to listen to the coast is never clear on a 9-hour roadtrip. and he seems to like big sandy & the fly-rite boys. otherwise, his tastes are pretty forgettable. it's unfortunate.

<=== grew up listening to William B. Williams "Make-believe Ballroom" on WNEW AM in the car. My father sung along to everything, as he knows every 40's/50's big band Crosby/Sinatra/Lane/Andrews Sisters/etc. song ever recorded.

This in and of itself is not too scarring. What made this disturbing is that my father has an ability, unique on this earth, to come in early on every verse/chorus. Not half a measure, just fractions of a beat. I have tried to replicate this many times, and cannot.

Uh... let's see... having your band of ten years decide to break up... and then finding out they are going to take the old material you wrote vocals for and rewrite the vocals with a new singer (copyright reasons).

I had the rare pleasure of actually hearing some of it yesterday. Now I have it stuck in my head.

Progressive rock, any era. Extended, mastrubatory guitar solos drive me into a homocidal rage.

Heh heh. That's true, you do. Thanks Ishy. No, what's done is done. I got to keep the vocal parts I was most proud of and will be able to rework them for some kind of evil solo project.

It's a totally lame move on their part.... but I believe in karma and I've been good. heh heh.

Playing drums in a dance band, whose other members only like and play corny oldies, outlaw country, and slow instrumental ballads. They love Michael McDonald. According to them, most music after the Beatles was evil.

Yeah. seriously. I guess the "idea" was that it was stuff we were working on but had not released yet so they don't want it to "go to waste" or some such thing. I would have really liked to release it. I was really proud of it. The whole thing is lame, actually. But... I've decided to try my best to let it go and to trust that it's for the best somehow and start working on my own new stuff. So it goes...
I just still need to vent about it now & then. It's nice to have peeps like you who I know are sooooo supportive.

(Thanks sketchy)

The year was 2001. I was sitting in a hot conference room with all of my co-workers. Suddenly, Creed's "Higher" came blasting out of the tinny speakers in the corner and the CEO came waltzing into the room with a huge "I'm the hippest 60-something guy with a wicked combover EVER!" grin on his face.
