I encourage everyone to see this. Top notch... That said, I would love to see what our cycling and speed enthusiasts have to say of it.

Yes. It's an heavily-modified Indian 'cycle, but a cycle no less. Follows the lead's journey (first of nine) to the Bonneville Salt Flats, for Speed Week. The second half reminded me very much of Schulze Gets the Blues (a foreigner in American with a singular interest, though not singleminded, learning to love and be loved in the States).

Saw it Wed. nite at Milwaukee's Downer Theatre on dad and stepmom's comp'd pass for being members of the Milwaukee Int'l Film Festival friends group.

Loved it.

Sounds right. New Zealand Film Commission got a credit at the beginning of the film. Apparently, it is supposed to take place in Invercargill; don't know if they filmed it there.

Until before I saw it, just, I thought it was about an Indian (curry) sprinter. Figured the film was about the relationship between a down on his luck Brit sprint coach and a Subcontinent charge that he was going to turn into a World Champion.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

I know Anthony Hopkins. Anthony Hopkins is no Indian.

FemCap'n said something about "...(somethin somethin) ..movie looks good)" and I asked which, "The Fastest Indian" she said. I immediately hoped it'd be a mechanical Indian (as it is) and not a human one, then felt like a dork for even thinking it.

Lonesome Bulldog by Butthole Surfers

Get along lonesome bulldog it's turning to spring
Get along lonesome bulldog it's that time again
Though it's raining, stop complaining
There's a long road to bear
Get along lonesome bulldog
Get along over there
Get along lonesome bulldog in spring
(spoken)Well, Mohatma Ghandi was a little spindly-bottomed
raggedy-headed boy that grew
up In a Western-Kentucky village called Johnstonville, in Harrison
county, and there he grew
up. His mother was a white woman; His father was a rastafarian who
refused to buy the family
Seafood on their outings. And there he developed a taste for
convertables, blonde-headed
women, And he had a big old long Indian dick...So get along little
Mohatma Ghandi, get along
in the Spring. Well, pretty soon little Mohatma Ghandi was going three
hundred miles an hour,
and I'll Tell you what. He was going three hundred miles an hour because
his strangely
turbocharged Penis-head was making him do it that way. Just kidding.
Mohatma Ghandi had a
tremendous Career in high school, in college, and in law school, and in
the House of
Representatives. There he Found himself as a presidential candidate. He
met up with Mary-Jo
Kopechne and across the Chappaquadick bridge they did ride. So get along
little Mohatma
Ghandi, get along in the Spring.

I thought this was going to be a Jim Thorpe appreciation thread...

As far as this movie goes, I can see people liking it, but it's definitely not my cup o' tea - hate most fauxsperational movies (Remember the Titans, Glory Road, Etc.)... My Grincian Heart ain't gonna grow three times large by seeing Sir Anthony tryin' to drive fast...

I've made more than a few girls cum in under 2 minutes, so I think I should have the title of the world's fastest indian.

Some critics are calling this movie slight and whimsical. That usually means "bitter, cranky critic who can't enjoy himself at a family film."

If this devolves into that scene where you fake it in a diner, I'm out.

My vote is for John Redcorn, due to the speed with which he moved in on Nancy Hicks Gribble.

First thing I thought of...well played.

At first, I thought that was a photo of Kenny Lofton. Then I punched myself in the eye, remembering that it was Willie Mays Hayes from Major League (which was filmed in Milwaukee, not Cleveland... hahah, I guess).

Considering that I consider Schulze Gets the Blues to be the best movie I saw (in a theatre) in '05, I don't find it emasculating that I enjoyed The World's Fastest Indian.

... But, if it helps my indie-cred (movies division) at all, I did like the latest piece from Terrence Malick. (If LooGAR has y'all pegged correctly, that seems to be a plus.)
