london calling was the original listmania number 1 back when we all frequented cmj.

Top three in the current Obner charts (of works that received more than 30 votes):

Rating Artist Album (Year)

1. 9.2 (40 votes) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (1959)

2. 9.2 (68 votes) The Clash - London Calling (1979)

3. 9.1 (41 votes) Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde (1966)

And honestly, I think every one of us knows which of these they would put on first if given the choice.

Well, I know which one I would put on.

London Calling is great and all, but it isn't even my favorite Clash album.

Oh...same here...my point was that "London Calling" was really the first album that opened the door to other types of music to me.

Best album ever.

I recently bought this on CD as well (I had it on cassette & the "singles" comp)

I was just listening to it this week & (re-)loving it.

I think there's something for everyone in it; punk, reggae, ...general goodness.

I used to get "Hateful" stuck in my head all the time: "Welllllllll.... I've got a friend who's the man. Who's the man?..."

The title track amazes me; it just never seems to loose its power. No matter how many times I play it while DJing it always seems to rock tha house.

"Guns of Brixton" is wicked too.

I still think Greil Marcus' writeup of this album is one of the most imaginative pieces in rock writing history.

In the words of Marcia surreptitiously recorded by Peter (Brady), 1st album era Clash vs. London Calling is the difference between a shooting star and a firecracker.
