This is for a friend of mine because I've informed you all that my music talent is lacking...

Looking for colleges with Audio Production/Studio Production degrees and focus. Any ideas as to the top 50 or so Audio Production schools?

I think he wants to get into the field of recording with the intention of making rock. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

SAE should definitely be on your short list.

Just tell your friend to watch out for over-priced schools in this field. A lot of these places charge you an arm and a leg on the assumption that you're going to graduate from there and make instant money. Sadly graduates from those kinds of programs often have to start out serving the studio staff coffee just like every other audio production hopeful.

(sorry to be so cynical, but it's often the case)

If you go to this school to "network", then yes, I would agree with you. But if, like DBM04, you are going there to actually learn things, well...I still agree with you, they're overpriced, but perhaps a class or two here and there wouldn't hurt.

I know one guy who went to the audio side, and he was pretty down with all the tech side of recording and recorded all my band's practices until we dissolved. He said it was great for networking and great for getting to try a multitude of things, but not to focus on one aspect you may or may not be interested in. Its such a short time there.

I've heard similar arguments about the film side.

There is a new studio here, well funded and booked ( Kyle Minogue(sp?) Elton John, Scissor Sisters ladeeda) that would probably be willing to take on an apprentice, PM me if it sounds like something he'd be interested in.

I'm interested, beachy.

I've got experience too.

But as far as your buddy goes, full sail is overpriced. Check out the 8 week program at Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH. For strictly learning about audio recording through immersion, it's the shit.

If he's looking to network as well as learn, well nothing really beats Berklee.

I wish I didn't have such a great day job. I would be all over this.

Do they know Senor Coconut (aka Uwe Schmidt)? I know he's out in the islands somewhere...and by islands, I mean anything non-continental. For all I know, it could be in the Caribbean somewhere.
