A bunch of embassies were torched, over some political cartoons regarding Muhammad.

Quote:
A leader of Hamas called the caricatures an unforgivable insult that merited death.

There were centuries of this sort of bullshit with the Catholic Church. Islam's just gotten whack later in the game.

I'll let you know when I condone the violence in response to the cartoons.

And yes, I think most people who practice Islam are nice and kind people.

I don't think these rioters are in the right, but I also know that WND is absolute garbage. Though it doesn't justify the reaction, WND completely failed to mention one little thing: Islamic law strictly forbids any depiction whatsoever of Mohammed. Cartoons, paintings, drawings--anything.

It sounds a little silly on the surface, but then again they aren't the ones who ended up with a bajillion pictures of a white Jesus from a land full of brown people.

Unfortunately the angry fundamentalist freaks like these people overshadow the many millions of nice and kind Islamists. And that fact that Islam was once a tolerant and fairly benign religion.

It can't ban other people from making images.
And who forced them to look at the images anyway. ;) They can't control the freedom of speech for the whole planet.

True, but it was the Catholics who boycotted Pepsi because of an unflattering black Jesus in a Madonna video.

I'm not justifying this--no way--just trying to point out where the original pissed-offedness is coming from.

ok true, this should have been mentioned. i'm not sure every news source has mentioned this though.

also, not trying to "stick up" for WND by any means...just sayin'.

But that's what the shift to radical Islam has done. They DO think they have the right to control the planet because we are infidel crusaders spreading filth and corruption and must be expunged.

You got that attitude, it's pretty hard for the hippy-dippy side of Islam to influence you.

That could be true. I just hate WND, even when I do agree with the stance they take. It's sort of like having David Duke show up at rally to protest Appropriations earmarks and wasteful pork barrel spending--who cares if he brings a bunch of people, it really ruins the credibility of your argument.

Edit for Dalen: Haha. We edited at the same time, and are obviously on the same page.

I did no such thing.

Edit: the makers of Mountain Dew can do no wrong.

good point. in their millions, we're [anyone not agreeing with them] an absolute evil, and must be destroyed.

the "kinder side" of Islam is fast becoming a minority i'm afraid.

THis has nothing to do with the link i posted, but everything to do with what happened. The link was posted because it contained the controversial cartoons.

The kinder side of all religions are fast becoming a minority. Everything is getting polarized. us vs. them.

I do think it's funny that the cartoon is explicitly lampooning Islam's association with violence and the reaction of the Islamic world has not exactly been one of moderation.
