Prolly a network decision. Didn't want to advertise, however inadvertently, their competitor's pregame show by Bradshaw's inclusion.

Phil only does colour. Sure, on the lead CBS team, but it's not like either network can control for ratings just by whom they put on the game-call.

Bradshaw's on the studio show at FOX, which directly competes with - and prolly soundly beats - ESPN's pregame.

Yeah, as was Aikman.

If I were JoMo, I would eschew this kind of a miscigas as well. Its one thing to be the best QB in history, its quite another to make an ass out of yourself on TV every week, or participate in meaningless ceremonies.

Supposedly Montanta wanted 100k and didn't get it. Bradshaw said he would rather spend time with his family. Mike and Mike were discussing it this morning.

I guess the deeper end of the story is that JoMo feels that he hasn't been properly compensated by the NFL for its use of him in so many of its retrospectives.

Former 49ers quarterback Joe Montana and former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw decided to stay home, while former Dolphins MVP Jake Scott was traveling in Australia.

Montana, the league's only three-time Super Bowl MVP, turned down the invitation over money, Newsday and the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Bradshaw, who told league officials that he wanted to be with his family, also took issue with the fees, the Chronicle reported. Bradshaw, through a representative, denied the Chronicle's report that there was a dispute over money.

Former MVPs were given $1,000 for incidental expenses while in Detroit, along with other amenities such as plane tickets, car rental and game tickets.

Sources told each paper that Montana asked for a guarantee of at least $100,000 in appearance money.

When the league balked at Montana's demands, the quarterback declined to be in attendance.

As it turns out, Montana went home to watch his son's basketball game, and it had nothing to do with any BS claims about demanding an appearance fee.

IF YOU DIS MONTANA, YOU DIS YOURSELF!!!

Greatest. QB. Ever.

I'm as big a 49ers & Notre Dame fan as you are. So I gotta tell you that you are defending a guy who collects workmans comp from the state of CA. There was a big article in a local paper here in LA years ago. I guess there's a few former pro athletes that do it too, Joe being the biggest name. It's real hush hush no one wants to talk about it.

He works maybe 50 hours a year making commercials that land him more money than the average joe who puts in 50 weeks a year & this is how he treats the taxpayers, the fans & the game. I don't care how mad he is at the NFL for F'uhing up the medical coverage for retired players. That was his players association, not the game. This isn't how you go about showing your displeasure.

Way to burst my bubble, Killjoy McDowner.

I'm just givin' you a hard time, D. Ever since I found out that my childhood idol, The Iceman, should more appropriately have been named The Snowman, I have given up the idyllic image of perfection I once held for these heroes of sport. David Robinson's pretty much the only guy I can think of who never disappointed me at one point or another, although Duncan seems to be pretty straight-up, too. And Staubach is about as unblemished as you can get, as far as I can tell.

But as much as I don't want to believe the tales of Montana's shittiness, deep down I realize there's probably at least some (if not total) truth to them. Say it ain't so, JoMo!!!

This is the latest I've heard, although it has been on many a pundits lips these past 2 days. Sick of it already. Just because the game was a bore, do we really need to over analyze something else?

From this statement, it's obvious you are rooting for the wrong team with the solid gold helmets, Mr. FT.
